Enabling every ‘woman in sustainability’ to have the capacity, courage and community they need to flourish and lead

About us

The Women in Sustainability Network is a thriving global women's network of sustainability professionals leading and creating the green transition in our organisations and communities. Our vision is for every ‘woman in sustainability’ to have the capacity, courage and community they need to flourish and lead in these times. We help those navigating a corporate career or running their own businesses to access the community, inspiration and inner development to amplify, and sustain, their impact and influence. Through sharing our learning, stories and experiences, we cultivate women to lead with purpose and heart. We do this through the WINS Membership and our Network events, in person and online, supported by our digital presence and communications. Our Mission To offer a safe, learning community to all women, and those identifying as women, to grow and amplify our impact together. We do this through the following strategies: * Grow and support 'WINS Leaders' who deliver a programme of activities for other ‘WINS’ so we can 'connect locally, impact globally' * Grow and nurture the WINS Membership to help resource & inspire purpose, passion & influence. * Collaborate and partner with similar values led organisations and individuals. Enabling every 'woman in sustainability' to have the capacity, courage and community to flourish and lead. This group is for female change-makers (and those identifying as female) working right across the environmental/ sustainability fields to learn with and from each other, share job opportunities, sector updates and other useful career-related information.

  • Happy Winter Solstice ❄️🌞 Today marks the Winter Solstice, the day with the fewest hours of sunlight throughout the year, making it the “shortest day” of the year. From today onward, the days will begin to grow longer and become lighter earlier. This seasonal shift serves as a grounding force to help you find your footing. Winter Solstice also symbolises the balance between light and dark, and it's the perfect time to think about the balance in your life. What would you like to experience more of, and what would you like to let go of? Check out this article for some ways you can celebrate today 👉 https://lnkd.in/enkX-EyK If you're starting to look ahead to the New Year and thinking about what you want to get out of your personal and professional lives, join us for "Hello 2025" our online workshop that helps you assess what really matters to you and set your intentions for the year. • Choice - it matters. Why we still have car-dependent housing developments going on is beyond us! We may not all be such wet weather happy cyclists but being able to cycle on 20 mph roads, have access to a fab off road cycle route into the city centre and good cycle parking all opens up active travel to more people. More of this in 2025 and let’s see the integration of active travel into circular economy please! #CircularEconomy #ActiveTravel

It has been pointed out that all my previous posts featuring cycling have been accompanied by photos of brilliant Welsh sunshine. So for balance this was my shopping trip last night. It was lashing it down and the roads were flooded. I briefly considered driving but then decided against it. I knew it would be really busy and parking a nightmare. So I put on waterproofs and took the bike. It was exhilarating and I felt a great sense of freedom at not having given up and opted for the car. But here’s the thing. I had the choice. It’s just a couple of miles and on 20mph roads. Many people are denied this choice. A recent report by Emmet Kiberd and Benedikt Straňák from the New Economics Foundation shows that new housing developments have increasingly locked residents into car dependency over the last 15 years. And unsurprisingly, car dependency is not good for us. A forthcoming study from the US finds that using a car for over 50% of out-of-home activities lowers life satisfaction (link in comments). And from a circular economy perspective we need to think very carefully about how and where we create homes for people. Embodied emissions associated with low density developments remote from existing services will be much higher than for higher density urban infill or refurbishment. Add in the need for at least one car, possibly more, per household and that’s a lot of locked-in emissions.

  • In the middle of winter, nature takes her time - perhaps we should too? ❄️🍄🌲 Whilst we may be drawn by the allure of New Year Resolutions and feel that we should be leaping into action with January and the New Year fast approaching, nature is still resting, gestating on what's yet to emerge. The Women in Sustainability Network's workshop, “Hello 2025”, is on the 8th of January, 1-2pm, and might be just what you need to start the year off in the best way! Join Rhian Sherrington FRSA, Founder / Head Coach, for this deeply rewarding exploration of what wants to emerge for you in 2025. You'll be guided to pay attention to those whispers in the dark, the nudges and 'what ifs?'. We'll reflect and remember your learning from 2024 and use that to inspire your intentions and goals for 2025. You'll identify the seeds you want to plant in 2025 and draw up a beautiful map of the year ahead, bringing in both how you want to feel as much as what you want to do and achieve. • What today's Cold Moon could mean for you 🌕❄️ Today is the last Full Moon of 2024, also known as a Cold Moon, Frost Moon, or Winter Moon. On a spiritual level, the full moon is when we close off cycles and see the fruits of the past 15 days come to pass. For some this can mean new beginnings, for others, this can mean opportunities for closure. The full moon has an inherently feminine aspect to it because it represents the blossoming, creative woman: The Mother, The Nurturer. #WomenInSustainability #FullMoon #ColdMoon
