As we wind down for 2024, we want to take a moment to thank everyone who made this year a remarkable success. To our partners, supporters, team, volunteers and local community, your dedication and collaboration have been integral to another impactful year. The year has been brimming with highlights and positive action, from scaling our nature connection programme to hosting DEFRA's flagship BNG launch, recording 800+ wildlife species at Watercress Farm, establishing new partnerships and progressing our landscape-scale peatland restoration project. We have also welcomed many new faces to the team, and with further recruitment planned for January, we’re continuing to grow to create even more impact in 2025. We’ve achieved so much together and are excited about what next year will bring. Until then, we're taking a well-earned break to enjoy time with friends and family. Wishing you all a Merry Christmas 🎄 #Highlights #NewYear #Team #PositiveImpact

***𝗕𝗲𝗹𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘁 𝗘𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲*** Wonderful to be invited to Belmont Estate for a guided tour through their recently established wetlands on around a third of their land. In just a few years, what has been achieved by rewriggling a river (only 15 months old and gravel beds forming!), releasing Dartmoor ponies, Tamworth Pigs and Red Devon cattle as ecosystem engineers and allowing nature to 𝙙𝙤 𝙞𝙩'𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜 with no human intervention is incredible - all whilst still producing high quality food. Starting with a biodiversity baseline of around 400 species, the last survey in October was over 2000 - In relative terms that is incredible and really does impress upon how quickly restoration can take place. '𝘽𝙪𝙞𝙡𝙙 𝙞𝙩 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙮 𝙬𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙚'. The passion from Henry Rossiter and Tamsin Rossiter is inspiring, with thousands of children from the Bristol area and beyond being giving the opportunity to connect with nature for free is applauded. Again, free, walks are hosted regularly by the informed, eloquent and equally inspiring Martin Williams and Luke Price - we would highly recommend.. Only one hour from Cardiff. Thanks so much for your hospitality and we look forward to catching up soon - Woop Woop! [Even though it was a typical Winter overcast day, it did not detract in any way and can only imagine how alive it will be come Spring!] Find out more - https://belmont.estate/

Our river, our responsibility. Whether it's flooding or pollution, our rivers are rightly grabbing a lot of media attention. Yes, tighter legislation around the protection of our rivers, implementing preventative measures as well as enforcing penalties on the polluters are important, but we - as individuals - also need to do our bit. Taff Tidy project is more than a world record attempt with anticipated numbers reaching the 000s. With strategic guidance from Dr Numair Masud, Arup, Keep Wales Tidy, Cardiff Rivers Group and Bangor University to name a few partners, we're also developing a robust legacy piece: ➡️ Community blueprint supporting sports clubs & community centres to offer environmental & social solutions to their local area while improving the overall profitability of the venue ➡️ Pupil support: I asked pupils what they wanted and they were clear. They want to magnify their voice when it comes to educational reform, so I'm supporting them to speak with the Welsh Parliament and Senedd members to make this happen ➡️ Corporate voice: We're designing an open letter for companies to sign and pledge their support ➡️ Pupil-written book: I'm supporting pupils to self-publish books, creating a revenue stream for the eco-clubs to use on climate-related projects All the above, I am delivering as a volunteer, so every pound raised goes into the successful deliver of the Taff Tidy project. And, there are costs involved - the world record attempt being the largest. I am actively seeking sponsors to help achieve these targets. If your organisation would like to be a part of this community-engaging, mindset-shifting and game-changing project, please get in touch and help us break this record and beyond! https://lnkd.in/eZHAmPzq

As Storm Bert arrives in South Wales, flood alerts are rolling in. Pontypridd was severely flooded in 2020, with dozens of homes & businesses impacted. The immense mental anguish for residents living with the question “when will it happen again?” The financial burden of replacing damaged items, as well as the impact generated from flood-damaged furniture & flooring is enormous. A family friend just shared this video of residents trying to save some homes. My heart is breaking for my Pontypridd neighbours 💔 It is a sad fact, but these scenes are only set to become the ‘norm’. Winters will continue to be wetter and more homes - and lives - impacted due to the climate crisis (I think we can safely say that this is a crisis.) Can we please take immediate action to decarbonising our lives: - green energy exists. Cut ties with oil & gas - green packaging exists. Cut ties with plastic - green food exists. Remove subsidies for high-carbon foods - green travel exists. Subsidise trains and not planes. The Climate crisis is here. We need our government to step up and protect our citizens.

We're so happy to have been nominated for a Green Gown Award in the Benefitting Society Category.💚 Our effort of having a monthly Repair Café on campus benefits the lives of individuals, communities, and wider society by helping with the cost-of-living crisis; facilitating skill sharing, waste reduction and reducing carbon emissions by extending the life of items. Data recorded over the past 4 years shows that through this event, approximately 84,694.6 kgs of CO2 emissions have been saved by fixing 2574 items, considering the UK average of -32.9 kg CO2e per repair. To give a visual example, this is the equivalent of what 3,850 mature trees would be absorbing from the atmosphere in a year. That's a whole forest! 🌿 Anyone (staff, students, public) can book to have a free repair. You can find our next dates and link to book in the comment!
