Helping all young people to know their options, to find their careers.

About us

Every young person deserves the opportunity to fulfil their potential. However, persistent inequities contribute to youth unemployment, highlighting the crucial need of our programmes to help young people to explore their options and find their careers. Established in October 2019, our purpose is clear: to help young people aged 14-19 to create positive futures for themselves. We focus on creating positive pathways by providing essential career opportunities and nurturing vital life skills. These include increasing awareness of their own skills, fostering a growth mindset, inspiring higher career aspirations, building resilience, enhancing their sense of agency, and promoting awareness of career pathways aligned with their interests. Our approach is hands-on and personalised. Dedicated volunteers, supported by our team, share impactful stories and conduct skills-based workshops in schools and educational settings, equipping young people with practical skills for their future. Beyond school engagements, we organise immersive events in business settings, offering young people – often their first – in-depth experience of the world of work. Our impact extends online, where our curated digital content reaches millions of young people, delivering compelling career stories and practical insights. Central to enabling our aim is our network of partner companies. Through these collaborations, we connect young people with diverse career paths, ensuring equitable access to opportunities, and helping them realise their talent. Looking ahead, our ambition is to remove all barriers to social mobility across the UK, having a positive impact on equality, diversity, and inclusion. We envision a society where every school has access to quality careers information and where employers adopt innovative approaches to talent recruitment, fostering a more inclusive workforce. Contact us to find out how you can make a difference.

It’s only taken 8 months for our volunteers to deliver inspirational talks and skills workshops to more than 5,000 young people in Welsh schools (5,041 as of today!) No wonder our heads are spinning! From delivering our first session in Cardiff and Vale College in March, to supporting our 5,000th young person in Penyrheol Comprehensive School this week, our team have been bowled over by the goodwill and enthusiasm of industry representatives across Wales, and by the quality of sessions delivered. We've had an overwhelming amount of positive feedback from schools, which makes all the hard work totally worthwhile. Thank you all for sharing your stories in such an inspiring way. Can you help us get to our next milestone to reach 10,000 young people in Wales? Thank you, thank you, thank you, to our brilliant non-stop team in Wales Roxie Ford, Ffion Davies, Aimee Vickery, and all our volunteers. I would tag you all but there are 152 of you!

  • Today we've joined our friends Inner Spark and Mind of the Student at Hallmark Foundation's Who Cares Wins conference – empowering and inspiring young people to explore the impactful world of social care. Our Head of Programme Claire McMaster and Project Coordinator Evie Gretton got to attend and represent Working Options in Education and some of their highlights include ... ⭐️ Starting the day off with Jermaine Harris' insightful “How do you show up?” – approaching each day with enthusiasm and purpose. 💡Connecting students directly to social care providers, giving young people a chance to ask some very direct and thoughtful questions. 💚 Shining a light on the incredible value of the social care sector and how our young people are crucial to its future. 🦄 A great variety of exhibitors shining a light on at lot of the common myths (and misconceptions) around a career in social care. 🌟All rounded off by Anita Goyal MBE 💚 (supporter of Working Options through The Goyal Foundation and Inner Spark) whose vision has driven this event forward, sharing the inspiring message of "dare to do''. (Thanks also go to Stephen Burke, Roxy Potts, and Avnish Goyal CBE 💚 for organising this event, and for welcoming us to it). #WhoCaresWins #CareersInCare Championing Social Care 💚💙

UPDATE: This request has now been filled! Thank you to all who got in touch to offer support - it is much appreciated 😊🤝 VOLUNTEER(S) NEEDED: HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE 👨⚕️🏥💡 Are you working in the Health and Social Care field? Are you interested in supporting young people with an insight in to your industry? Are you based in, or able to travel to, Caerphilly? • Mentoring, still an amazing odyssey to this day👇

When we talk about social mobility, we often focus on the nuts and bolts of education and qualifications for young people. But in my 20 years working in the sector I've seen how something far less tangible can really make a huge difference: mentoring. It's not about opening doors, though that can also make a huge difference. It's about helping people - particularly those from underresourced communities - see doors they never knew existed. Through our mentoring programme at Working Options in Education we’re starting to see these transformations. I get a huge amount of satisfaction from my own mentoring relationships by offering a safe space for my mentees to challenge themselves and explore options. What's often overlooked is how mentoring bridges the 'hidden curriculum' gap – the unwritten rules of professional life that many are able to take for granted. Whether it's mastering workplace communication, building professional networks, or simply having someone to challenge your self-limiting beliefs, mentoring can provide crucial social capital that no formal education can replicate. This isn't just feel-good rhetoric – it's about unlocking the potential that exists in every community. If you'd like to learn more about becoming a mentor, please, feel free to DM me.

Experienced nurse leader and Director of Nursing & Healthcare, dedicated to elevating healthcare across the NHS and Independent sector, through strategic recruitment and nurturing exceptional talent.

Last week, I had the privilege of being invited to Coleg y Cymoedd in #Wales, through the incredible Working Options in Education. I spoke to a cohort of students who are starting on their journey into the health and social care space. It was such a great session, and engagement was strong. Future workforce planning is something that I’m incredibly passionate about. This is shared by the team at Hoop Recruitment LTD. We understand that it is imperative that we invest time and impart our own experiences to allow the future generations to develop and feel inspired to embark on a career of their own in this sector. Thank you for the lovely welcome and, as always, an extra special thank you to Roxie Ford and Aimee Vickery for their efforts in putting together these sessions. #hooprecruitment #workforceplanning #socialcare #nursing #nhs #independentsector

  • What happens when you bring together ambitious young people and industry?  Something extraordinary. Our recent Inclusion Network event with The Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (The CISI), at the iconic Walkie-Talkie building and Sky Garden, was a hive of activity; huge thanks to Kirsty Crosby (Assoc CIPD) and team for making it happen. Young people walked away with real-world insights, valuable connections, enhanced skills, and clearer career visions. For industry professionals it was a chance to connect with motivated recruits, share industry knowledge, contribute to CSR goals, and network. These events are part of our broader mission. The Inclusion Network offers a calendar of in-person gatherings across England and Wales, each sparking real opportunities. We're committed to hosting these in inspiring locations, having kicked off in London with Google and Salesforce. Now, we're excited to expand nationwide. Interested in hosting or joining future events? Get in touch with Maria Theodosiou.
