About us

We empower young people to break through the barriers they face and build a future on their terms. For 28 years, we’ve helped thousands in the most deprived boroughs in London beat their background. The young people we work with often struggle with issues like family breakdown, unemployment, educational failure, and live in areas that experience high levels of anti-social behaviour and gang violence. It’s a reality that batters potential, limits support and forces every inner-city future into a predictable statistic. That’s why at XLP, we keep young people in school and out of gangs. We build positive, long-term relationships to restore a trust in people. We nurture the belief that things can change, despite their postcode. We encourage them to set positive goals and work hard to achieve them. At XLP, our mission is to change that script and help young people build the future they want, not the one written for them.

London’s suspension rates reveal significant educational inequalities. Students from Roma, Gypsy, and Traveller of Irish Heritage backgrounds face the highest suspension rates of any ethnic group in London. Additionally, students eligible for free school meals in Bexley are four times more likely to be suspended than those in Tower Hamlets. These disparities reflect the systemic barriers that prevent many students from accessing the opportunities they need to reach their full potential. That’s why we’re proud to have supported organisations such as XLP and First Story who do vital work to help students reconnect with learning. Tysers was delighted to host a mince pies and music event on 21 November at our London office in Fenchurch St to raise funds for our wonderful corporate charity, #XLP - the eXceL Project. Tom Pickering, Marketing Manager at XLP, provided some excellent music and Tim Sledge Director of Fundraising at XLP, highlighted the wonderful work that the charity does to create positive futures for young people growing up in inner-city London. David Abraham, Tysers Charity and DEI sponsor, is pictured with XLP's Tim and some of the members of Tysers’ Charity Committee. #fundraising #XLP

Julia Rausing Trust is pleased to announce £7.2 million in grants to 17 literacy and education charities across the country. The largest grant, of £2.4 million, has been made to the National Literacy Trust’s Libraries for Primaries campaign, launched with a mission to ensure every primary school in the UK has a library or dedicated library space for its children. The Julia Rausing Trust has also announced today a £1 million grant to the charity AllChild and its Early Intervention School Links Programme, a targeted early intervention programme that provides additional opportunities and support to children according to their individual needs. The grant will help fund the programme’s Link Workers across 37 schools, who build trusted relationships with children, families, and schools to provide each child with a wrap-around package of support. Another £758,930 grant has been made to Action Tutoring to support its small group tutoring for disadvantaged pupils, an initiative helping young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to achieve more through the support of passionate volunteer tutors. The grant will enable and empower Action Tutoring to bolster their delivery across their Northern, Northwest and South West hubs, with an ambition to help positively impact the lives and futures of over 1,000 children and young people over a three-year period. Simon Fourmy, Director of the Julia Rausing Trust, said: “Julia Rausing was a passionate supporter of children and young people’s charities. She believed it was vital that all children had access to books, specialist care and after school clubs, whether at inner city schools or isolated rural areas. These grants have been made to continue her legacy of helping young people across the country.”  Commenting on the donation, Jonathan Douglas CBE, Hon FRSL, CEO of the National Literacy Trust, said: “…We are absolutely delighted to be extending our partnership with The Julia Rausing Trust, and enabling more children, across the UK, to benefit from access to books and the opportunity to develop a vital, life-long love of reading.” Selected charities also include School-Home Support, QEST - Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust, Football Beyond Borders, XLP, Royal National Children's SpringBoard Foundation, The ClementJames Centre, Bloomsbury Football, World Book Day Charity, The Country Trust, Magic Breakfast, Ebony Horse Club, Youth Sport Trust, Read for Good, and P3 Charity (People Potential Possibilities). https://lnkd.in/eB2qirTc

What does it feel like to be in the middle of a storm? While we're making waves in the lives of young people, we're navigating the storms of political and economic turbulence. We recognise the Government's desire to develop its relationship with charities like XLP and some of the steps it has taken in the recent budget to support those less advantaged in society. However, raising National Insurance contributions have added considerable pressure, placing an additional burden of around £1.4bn onto the Charity Sector. For XLP, this will mean finding over £60,000 extra each year - the cost of two youth workers. Inevitably, this will also impact individuals, companies and trusts and foundations, and their ability to donate. And just as the funding pool shrinks, we are also witnessing many funders pausing grants due to limited resources or being oversubscribed. As this storm builds, we’re facing choppy waters in the ongoing delivery of the work on the ground with young people. This week is National Youth Work Week, a time to spotlight and celebrate youth workers. These incredible people, at XLP and all around the country, provide trusted relationships, mentoring, safe spaces, and guidance for young people facing storms of their own, including financial hardship, incredibly tough home lives, and social exclusion. In these turbulent times, your support makes all the difference. So whilst we say thank you to the youth workers, we say thank you to you because every donation helps us keep delivering vital services, provide stability, and create transformation across London. #YouthWorkWeek
