Julia Rausing Trust congratulates Alder Hey Children's Charity on the opening of its new MediCinema at Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust. Alder Hey’s MediCinema officially opened its doors for patients and families last Sunday to host an exclusive screening of Moana 2, and Julia Rausing Trust is delighted to have helped fund the new cinema. Children and young people were invited from the wards to the screening of the film at the new in-hospital cinema located in the heart of the hospital. The specially designed cinema, which can accommodate 34 people, allows children to attend screenings in their beds or wheelchairs, accompanied by their families and a nursing team. This allows them to enjoy the latest films like many cinemagoers while still receiving any care they need. Colin Lawrence, Chief Executive Officer, MediCinema, said: “…We are so excited to be opening our latest MediCinema at this exceptional hospital, for the benefit of patients and communities of Liverpool and beyond. We believe that services to boost wellbeing can be transformational to how patients and their families experience care, and we look forward to working in close partnership with Alder Hey Children’s Charity and the Trust to provide valued and beneficial experiences for years to come.”

Julia Rausing Trust is pleased to announce £7.2 million in grants to 17 literacy and education charities across the country. The largest grant, of £2.4 million, has been made to the National Literacy Trust’s Libraries for Primaries campaign, launched with a mission to ensure every primary school in the UK has a library or dedicated library space for its children. The Julia Rausing Trust has also announced today a £1 million grant to the charity AllChild and its Early Intervention School Links Programme, a targeted early intervention programme that provides additional opportunities and support to children according to their individual needs. The grant will help fund the programme’s Link Workers across 37 schools, who build trusted relationships with children, families, and schools to provide each child with a wrap-around package of support. Another £758,930 grant has been made to Action Tutoring to support its small group tutoring for disadvantaged pupils, an initiative helping young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to achieve more through the support of passionate volunteer tutors. The grant will enable and empower Action Tutoring to bolster their delivery across their Northern, Northwest and South West hubs, with an ambition to help positively impact the lives and futures of over 1,000 children and young people over a three-year period. Simon Fourmy, Director of the Julia Rausing Trust, said: “Julia Rausing was a passionate supporter of children and young people’s charities. She believed it was vital that all children had access to books, specialist care and after school clubs, whether at inner city schools or isolated rural areas. These grants have been made to continue her legacy of helping young people across the country.” Commenting on the donation, Jonathan Douglas CBE, Hon FRSL, CEO of the National Literacy Trust, said: “…We are absolutely delighted to be extending our partnership with The Julia Rausing Trust, and enabling more children, across the UK, to benefit from access to books and the opportunity to develop a vital, life-long love of reading.” Selected charities also include School-Home Support, QEST - Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust, Football Beyond Borders, XLP, Royal National Children's SpringBoard Foundation, The ClementJames Centre, Bloomsbury Football, World Book Day Charity, The Country Trust, Magic Breakfast, Ebony Horse Club, Youth Sport Trust, Read for Good, and P3 Charity (People Potential Possibilities). https://lnkd.in/eB2qirTc

Julia Rausing Trust is pleased to announce a £1.5 million grant to the National Garden Scheme (NGS) for their Community Garden Grants programme. The National Garden Scheme is a charity that gives visitors unique access to over 3,500 exceptional private gardens in England, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Channel Islands, and raises money for nursing and health charities. In 2011, the NGS set up the ‘Community Garden Grants’ programme, which forms part of NGS’s wider Gardens and Health Programme. The Community Garden Grants programme focuses on support for community groups to create or improve gardens for the benefit of local communities, many of which play an important health and social welfare role through providing community orchards, food banks and settings for local GP social prescribing. The funding for the Community Garden Grants programme will aid the development of community garden projects with a purpose focussed on demonstrating the health benefits of gardens, and gardening, not only to health and wellbeing, but also to the environment and communities surrounding them. Simon Fourmy, Director of the Trust, said: “The Julia Rausing Trust is pleased to announce a £1.5m grant to the National Garden Scheme, supporting its Community Garden Grants programme. This funding will not only aid multiple gardening projects across England, Wales and Northern Ireland but will also provide greater access to green spaces, and the health benefits of gardening, to the surrounding communities. These were important causes to Julia Rausing and this grant ensures her legacy and philanthropic vision continues.” George Plumptre, Chief Executive of the National Garden Scheme, commented: “Everyone at the National Garden Scheme is absolutely thrilled to be receiving such a generous donation from the Julia Rausing Trust. The amazing level of support that it will give over a number of years will ensure that our Community Gardens programme flourishes and directly benefits a huge number and variety of people, their communities and their collective wellbeing. We know that gardens were very close to Julia Rausing’s heart, as were community-based projects, so this donation will ensure that a strong, and lasting legacy, grows from her quite remarkable philanthropic generosity.” https://lnkd.in/eP2TmVt2

Julia Rausing Trust is pleased to announce it has donated £150,000 to The Independent’s and Refuge’s Brick by Brick campaign. The donation to the charity will help fund a second house for victims of domestic abuse. This is the first donation the Julia Rausing Trust made since it announced in October 2024, that The Julia and Hans Rausing Trust, would become known as the Julia Rausing Trust. The two trusts have been bought together to honour Julia Rausing’s memory and build on her philanthropic legacy. The Julia Rausing Trust will donate £100million to charities and organisations each year making it one of the largest charitable funds in the UK. This is double the average amount given through the Julia and Hans Rausing Trust, meaning more funding will be available for UK charities and organisations. Hans Rausing said: “My wife, Julia Rausing, was a passionate supporter and advocate of charities that specialised in helping women, children and families that had been the victims of domestic abuse. She was always pleased to see new initiatives that increased the awareness of domestic abuse and she would have welcomed The Independent’s Brick by Brick campaign with Refuge. “For these reasons, we are pleased to announce a donation from the Julia Rausing Trust to help with the creation of a second safe house for families in need of protection. We hope this donation will encourage others to give generously to this important initiative.” A Refuge spokesperson said: “Thanks to the incredible generosity of The Julia Rausing Trust donating £150k, we are halfway to our target of £300k to build a second house and we are all committed to raising the rest of the money needed to make this happen.” Please donate now to the Brick by Brick campaign, launched by The Independent and charity Refuge, to help raise £300,000 to build a safe space for women where they can escape domestic abuse, rebuild their lives and make a new future. Text BRICK to 70560 to donate £15. https://lnkd.in/ejYQwuau

Julia Rausing Trust is pleased to announce the launch of the South Cheshire Funders’ Forum – an initiative aiming to streamline the funding process for small charities in the South Cheshire area and make it easier for charities to apply for essential financial support. The Trust has a long track record of collaborating with other funders in South Cheshire and this new initiative will better align funding and foster more strategic responses. Charities will no longer need to complete numerous lengthy applications as this new system connects them with several local funders, including Cheshire Community Foundation, Julia Rausing Trust, Cheshire East Council and the Steve Morgan Foundation. Simon Fourmy, Director of the Trust, said “At a time of increased demand on services and reduced funding opportunities, it is important for funders to collaborate, ensuring scarce resources are effectively mobilised in support of charities. We are pleased to have been involved in establishing this new funder forum and delighted to be working with partners including the Cheshire Community Foundation.” Melanie Sproston, CEO of Cheshire Community Foundation, expressed her enthusiasm for the initiative: “The South Cheshire Funders' Forum is a game-changer for small charities. By streamlining the application process, we’re allowing them to focus on delivering vital services while helping funders collaborate for more impactful decisions.” https://lnkd.in/eq7NMKBH

The Julia Rausing Trust has today announced its second wave of grants, £30 million to causes supporting Health, Welfare and Education in the UK. This second wave of grants follows the £20 million announced as part of the launch of the Trust earlier in the month. The new Trust will see £100 million donated to UK charities and organisations in its first year. Commenting on this second wave of grants, Hans Rausing said, “This next £30 million wave of grants has been made in Julia’s name to reflect her passion for supporting young people and those in need. The Prince’s Trust and MediCinema, in particular, were amongst several charitable projects that Julia worked on closely last year to help support their worthy programmes. In total 31 charities are receiving grants in this new wave focused on Health, Welfare and Education. Julia recognised how these charities could reach so many and how they help improve the daily lives of not just those in need but also those providing support.” Previously, the Julia Rausing Trust announced £20 million of donations to charities and organisation in the Arts and Heritage, including £10 million to the Royal Opera House, £5 million to the National Gallery and £1 million to Gloucester Cathedral. https://lnkd.in/epCunrdA

The Julia Rausing Trust has today been launched in memory of the late philanthropist Julia Rausing. The new Trust will see £100 million donated to UK charities and organisations in its first year, making it amongst the most significant philanthropic giving funds in the country. The Trust will be funding organisations and projects in three areas: Arts & Heritage; Health & Welfare; and Education. Julia Rausing was one of Britain’s leading philanthropists, driving her philanthropy through the Julia and Hans Rausing Trust for ten years. In that time the Trust made more than 1,000 donations totalling over £330 million. In 2023, the Julia and Hans Rausing Trust granted more than £71 million, its largest year of donations. Hans Rausing said: “The Julia Rausing Trust is a fitting legacy to Julia’s philanthropic vision and has been established to support causes that were close to her heart. “I hope that the Julia Rausing Trust will bring awareness to her generosity, demonstrate the important work philanthropy does, and support causes and organisations which are the backbone of our society.” https://lnkd.in/epCunrdA

Celebrating the National Gallery 200th birthday, the façades of the building have undergone a major clean and refurbishment programme. We were delighted to play a part in the building looking its best to celebrate its bicentenary. Gabriele Finaldi, Director of the National Gallery, said, ‘The National Gallery façade on Trafalgar Square is one of London’s most recognizable sights. Julia Rausing encouraged us to undertake the complex task of cleaning and restoring it for the Gallery’s Bicentenary year. We are enormously grateful for Julia and Hans' support and are now immensely proud of our gleaming, elegant façade.’ #NG200 https://lnkd.in/e4dnZuiy
