💫 For many businesses, December is a time to reflect on the year gone and plan for the year ahead. Last week, the Zero Carbon Forum and Zero Carbon Services teams got together to share thoughts, data and insights (plus a few memes) on what we’re doing well and what we could do better, the impact we’re having with our members and clients, and our plans for next year as we ramp up climate actions across the sector. 💥 Working with the hospitality industry, we love getting together to enjoy some of the incredible offerings around the UK. We went to the fabulous city of Bristol where we were spoilt for choice - a cruise on the riverboat 🚤 , a couple of pints in the local pubs 🍻 , and a delicious meal (+ the world’s hardest Christmas quiz). There may have been some late-night dancing too, but there's no evidence of that, we promise. 🕺 The time together was productive and fun, even as we work on tackling one of the biggest challenges of our lifetime. We’re excited to continue working with our members and clients over the next year and beyond to: ✅ Raise the bar ✅ Reduce emissions ✅ And build a resilient hospitality and brewing sector that will thrive, and be enjoyed, for years to come! Thank you to everyone for your support, we wish you a great season, and we look forward to working with you in 2025. #HappyNewYear #MerryChristmas #hospitality #NetZero #ClimateAction #teamwork

Last week, we welcomed about 50 members to our All Members Meeting at Sustainable Ventures, wrapping up 2024 with a day of collaboration and inspiration. Together, we reviewed the latest industry trends, benchmarks, and our collective progress, learned from peers, and explored how to accelerate sustainability efforts across the sector. Breakout discussions explored supplier engagement, sourcing regenerative commodities, and embedding net-zero strategies through governance and reduction action. Priorities for 2024 include delivering exceptional member value, identifying carbon reduction opportunities, and supporting effective supplier engagement. Key themes from the day: 💚 🙌 Sector action is growing: 78% of members now have board-level responsibility for sustainability, and 82% have a dedicated sustainability lead. 🚨💰 Rising cost pressures: According to UKHospitality, the new UK government budget is expected to cost hospitality £3.4 billion in 2025. 🚨 🌎 Climate pressures: Food and beverage supply chains are high impact and high risk, but supplier engagement still low. 🤝 Business alignment is critical: Sustainability efforts must align with business success. 👥 ✅ The Forum can help: We provide tools to cut carbon and costs while accelerating sector-wide engagement. Special thanks to: ✔️ Mike Hanson (WSH RESTAURANTS) for discussing the compelling financial opportunity in reducing food waste. ✔️Sarah Halaka and Isaac Pelham-Chipper AIEMA (The Restaurant Group) for insights on incentivising suppliers for sustainability. ✔️ Alastair Trickett (Grassroots Farming Co.) for addressing “the beef problem” and bridging the gap between farms and hospitality businesses. ✔️ Marianne Jarvis and Jon Mead (Hall & Woodhouse Ltd) for sharing their journey in addressing Scope 3 emissions— those indirect emissions from the value chain, such as sourcing, production, and logistics. As a not-for-profit working with a third of the hospitality sector, we’re here to help. Let’s work together to cut carbon and costs while building resilience.
