Our second session in Zoro’s Women’s Development Programme took place last Friday, hosted by Hiran Odedra, CEO of Unity Bridge Consulting Ltd, focussed on increasing impact and confidence—both personally and professionally. Following feedback from our International Women’s Day initiatives, our team shared a desire to complement the inspiration from our senior leader talks with deeper, hands-on support to build confidence, overcome self-doubt, and take meaningful steps toward their career goals. Recently, we received a large return of 10,000 syringes at our Leicester office that our supplier couldn't take back. Rather than let them go to waste, our amazing colleagues Helen and Hayley took the initiative to find a meaningful way to repurpose them. After some research, they connected with Leicestershire Wildlife Hospital, a non-profit charity in Kibworth dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of sick, injured, and orphaned wildlife in the region. Over the weekend, Hayley and Helen took a trip to the hospital. We're thrilled to share that the syringes are already being put to great use—helping feed baby hedgehogs! 🦔 It’s a wonderful reminder that even small acts can make a big impact. 🌟 We recently launched for the first time, our parent company, Grainger's 8-week Leadership Essentials programme in the UK 🌟 Last week, we hosted the Week 4 in-person week with 21 Leaders and saw them develop important skills including: ➡ Coaching for breakthrough and alignment conversations ➡ Feedback ➡ Recognition We had the pleasure of Grainger’s Leadership Development Talent Lead, Tim Miller delivering the coaching session, Zoro UK’s Director of Customer Experience & Merchandising, Karen Renshaw, and Senior HR Manager, Greg Lee, Chartered MCIPD, deliver the feedback and recognition sessions. At Zoro UK, we’re serious about investing in our leaders and equipping them with the right leadership skills needed to deliver a fantastic team member experience. This week reinforced just how dedicated we are to fostering growth and creating a culture where leadership thrives. For the final part of our Women In The Workplace series, we had the honour of hosting Deidra Cheeks Merriwether, the SVP and CFO of our parent company, Grainger, as she shared her career path with our team in celebration of International Women's Day. Dee shared that initially, she struggled to articulate her career aspirations. Yet, she embraced diverse roles and remained open to new opportunities, especially those beyond her comfort zone. This mindset paved way for multiple opportunities at Grainger. Her advice? “You never really know what an opportunity can lead to so be open to new opportunities, and areas which take you out of your comfort zone.” She emphasised the power of building relationships with decision-makers, advocating for oneself, and taking control of your own career choices by actively seeking out opportunities. Dee discovered no-one gets work-life balance right all the time and it takes you maturing as a person to understand the importance of setting boundaries and seeking support. Her message to both men and women is that: “You can have boundaries and still achieve the same in your career and meet your objectives.” Dee, we're incredibly grateful for the refreshing honesty and openness in your conversation. Your candidness was truly inspiring, and our team couldn't help but admire your genuine approach. Decorating our offices in red - a symbol of prosperity, learning Chinese slang for an extra dose of fun, and of course - food! Grace and Mathew also shared their family traditions with us. Traditions of welcoming the new year by cleaning the house to remove bad luck from the previous year, practicing a mindful approach on engaging with conflicts, celebrating with delicious foods, and visiting elderly family members for their blessings.
