Are you a local business who could offer supported employment? Wishaw’s Enevate Homes rose to the challenge and opened its doors to young people with additional support needs for DuoDay 2024. DuoDay brings together disabled people, supported employment agencies and local employers to promote equal employment opportunities across Europe. DuoDay highlights the positive contributions disabled people make at work and Enevate Homes provided tasks and taster sessions in joinery, plumbing and electrical work for young people. Szymone from Firpark Secondary School said: “It was great getting the chance to do a bit of joinery, plumbing and electrical work. I'd never had the chance to do this before. I loved every bit of it, but the highlight for me was making the frame. I would love a work placement there.” John McMurray from Enevate Homes added: “This was an amazing day not only for the young people, but for our staff who got so much out of it. We’d love to support these young people further and will continue this amazing work by committing to further work experience and opportunities through NLC’s Supported Employment Team.” Find out how your business can make a difference. https://lnkd.in/eQG2iADx

News of the trials that have taken place in North Lanarkshire through our Centre of Excellence for Decarbonising Roads initiative...
A week of presentations and local authority discussions! 🌍 Project Manager for the North Campus, Lauren SeBlonka presented this week at Road Expo Scotland on Project Pothole. This groundbreaking initiative, delivered by the Centre of Excellence, is trialling and evaluating leading low-carbon pothole repair materials. Lauren shared the methodology, material innovations, and initial findings from the trials conducted in North Lanarkshire and the West Midlands as part of Live Labs 2. The project’s focus on low-carbon alternatives, from both a ‘clean’ live trial environment and through phased operational delivery, will help the Centre develop guidance for decarbonising pothole materials based on road type, defect type and the context each local authority navigates. Meanwhile, our South Campus team hosted an informative session for the Midlands Highways Alliance virtually, discussing the benefits and considerations for surface treatment solutions based on our recent live trials and carbon evaluations. 👏 Well done to the entire team for spreading the word up and down the country this week, sharing learnings with local authorities across the UK and supporting our collective journey to decarbonisation! #LiveLabs2 #RoadExpoScotland #ProjectPothole #Decarbonisation #SustainableInfrastructure #Innovation Donal Feeney Department for Transport (DfT), United Kingdom North Lanarkshire Council Transport for West Midlands Colas Ltd Amey ADEPT Live Labs
