About us
The Lawyer’s Drafting Contracts course has been designed to reinforce best-practice drafting, allowing lawyers to become more efficient, confident drafters and helping to manage reputational and client risk. Delivered by a former partner at a Magic Circle firm, Drafting Contracts brings associates and in-house legal teams a flexible and effective way of testing and enhancing their existing skills. Through nine instructional videos and comprehensive reference materials, this course covers the finer points of contract drafting. The course is designed for both in-house and private practice lawyers who are at an Associate level of experience. Junior lawyers and more senior associates will also find the course materials a useful point of reference. The course is run by Ben Staveley, a writing and contract drafting consultant. He studied English and Law at Magdalene College, Cambridge, before joining Freshfields (now Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer) in 1979. Ben was a partner in the firm between 1987 and 2002, and led an initiative to promote clearer writing and drafting throughout the firm. Ben now advises law firms and other business organisations on the principles of clear writing and effective contract drafting, and also lectures at universities. He has recently published his first book, a short guide for lawyers entitled ‘Faultless Grammar’.
