M&A deals in the environmental and #sustainability consulting sector in 2023 nearly hit the record levels recorded in 2021 and 2022, finds our latest Global Market Assessment. The leading 35 global E&S consultancies acquired 51 environmental and #ESG focussed companies through 2023, with more than half completed in Europe. Companies providing services in the #energy transition, #water management, #ecological surveying and impact assessments were in high demand. WSP acquired assets generating $2.6bn in annual E&S revenues between 2019 and 2023, primarily from Wood E&I and Golder. Tetra Tech followed with c.$770m of revenue added through M&A following its purchase of RPS Group in 2022. The growing industry influence of private-equity is also evident, with 54% of the M&A deals in 2023 being backed by debt financing, compared with only 23% of similar deals in 2018.
