A recent report puts forward an evidence-based plan to divert vulnerable young people away from criminal exploitation and harm. 'Toddlers, Tech and Talk', is a ground-breaking study into how children under three years old use digital technology in the home and how it supports their language development. 💡 The study highlights the many different ways that parents use technology with their children, such as looking at photographs and videos, taking photographs, watching programmes, playing music, making digital paintings and listening to stories. 💬 Professor Julia Gilllen, from Lancaster University, said: “Many families think of creative ways of supporting their children’s language development. One common misunderstanding is that digital technology causes children to sit passively, but we found that they often respond to videos by dancing or engaging in rhythmic movements". This is the first in-depth study about tech in the home lives of children from birth to 36 months, led by The Manchester Metropolitan University and carried out with Lancaster University, Swansea University, Queen's University Belfast and the University of Strathclyde. 🔗 Take a look at the full research here: https://lnkd.in/er-NcUNx and the policy briefing below. Lancaster University experts, Prof Nancy. Preston, Prof Suzanne Ost, Prof Sheila Payne and Dr Sean Hughes were in Parliament this week presenting research evidence ahead of the vote on Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill happening today. A complex and emotive issue; we have welcomed the opportunity to speak with MPs, including Kim Leadbeater MP, and help inform the debate with our research.

🔎 The Plastic Packaging in People's Lives' project examined the whole packaging supply chain: production, consumption, post-consumption, waste disposal and processes - 552 people and 91 organisations were involved in the research. ♻️ The Rethinking the Consumer Attitude Behaviour Gap report offers a comprehensive overview of the project’s findings, giving a holistic view on how plastic food packaging is embedded in consumers’ day-to-day lives. 🔗 Read the reports and connect with the researchers: https://lnkd.in/eAw8adqV   🤝 The multi-disciplinary research team is comprised of Lancaster University experts in consumer insights, supply chain management, waste management and material science.
