We are excited to announce a special workshop in collaboration with University of Manchester Students' Union Student Groups Team as we prepare for the re-opening of the Steve Biko Sustainability Fund for the 2024-25 academic year. This workshop is a fantastic opportunity for youy to brainstorm sustainable project ideas, learn more about the fund, and gain insight into the application process. What is the Steve Biko Sustainability Fund? The Steve Biko Sustainability Fund is a funding source designed to kickstart projects focused on sustainability. These projects can range from solution-based (e.g., tree planting) to research-focused (e.g., data collection) and can cover any aspect of sustainability. The key criterion is that your project should aim to make an impact within the Manchester community, whether through raising awareness or involving local communities. The fund is open to all students, whether applying as individuals or in teams, with the possibility of receiving up to £1,000 for an approved project proposal. This academic year, 2024-2025, we have up to £39,000 available to fund your sustainable projects. 🏫 In 2020, MEC and the Students' Union launched PitchIt! - a student societies' entrepreneurship competition. The competition aims to help students develop entrepreneurial and pitching skills while aiming to win funds for their projects. Societies can form teams to win up to £1,250 from a £6,000 prize fund for projects that generate income and expand their impact. This week, we held a Pitching Workshop led by Matilda Page that taught students how to pitch according to the application criteria. The workshop was lively and engaging, with students participating in exercises and stepping outside their comfort zones to develop key skills. Here are the next key dates: 🗓 Applications close on Sunday 2nd March 2025 at 23.59pm. 👉 Shortlisted finalist societies will be announced on Wednesday 5th March 2025 at 1.00pm via email to the society representative. 🎙️ PitchIt!
