Positive outlook for bank stocks in 2025 Banking stocks make up 40% of the VN-Index and significantly outperformed it in 2024, returning 26% in VND terms vs. 12%, respectively. We expect even stronger performance this year, driven by factors including increased public infrastructure spending, a recovery in consumption, and the real estate market. That said, there is considerable dispersion in performance, fundamentals, and valuations among listed banks, presenting a prime opportunity for active managers to outperform the broader market. In his latest Insights report, Chief Economist Michael Kokalari, along with Senior Bank Analyst Thuy Anh Nguyen, outline the key drivers behind 2025 bank earnings growth and our criteria for selecting bank stocks in the coming year. As 2024 winds down, attention is turning to what’s in store for Vietnam’s economy and stock market in 2025. The economy performed well this year, driven by growth in exports and manufacturing, despite a very uncertain global economic landscape. Will these trends carry over into the new year? With the government targeting 6.5% GDP growth for 2025, domestic factors such as consumer spending, public infrastructure investment, and a recovery of the real estate market will be key to hitting that goal, as exports and manufacturing are likely to slow. Additionally, the world awaits what the incoming Trump administration actually does, particularly with respect to tariffs. As we have shared recently, we believe Vietnam’s “Trump risk” is overstated and that Vietnam’s long-term tailwinds remain in place. VinaCapital’s Chief Economist Michael Kokalari addresses these and other issues in our “Looking Ahead at 2025” report, which may be accessed via this link: https://lnkd.in/gamdbYDv #VinaCapital #InvestinginVietnam #insights #2025outlook #economicgrowth
