Hi, no problem at all.

It is possible to build over a skylight/velux slightly as it creates a little shelf, (see photo)

In your case though I was thinking to actually build the boxing into the "family room" and put a media wall inside the boxing, as opposed to building it into the dining room where it may interact with the skylight. So the pillar would actually be on the RH side of the structure.

Possibly, I think you could create a really cool effect with it built inside the wall, however you have a similar thing going on on the opposite wall so it may not make a difference, plus the sofa might obstruct people who are walking through.

I would still consider boxing it in that way though because even if the sofa is on the back wall (inside the boxing) you can still build in some integrated shelving, you could sink lights into the top section for reading, you could paint or wallpaper the back section a different colour to the rest as it would be framed nicely ETC.

Hmm, is there anything within the kitchen which you wanted but cannot fit? I'm just wondering whether you could build in a panty unit within that section, or a display unit/bookcase?

I like the configuration you have with the sofa on the LH side and media wall on the RH side and if I was to choose I would prefer option 1. Something about having a door on the tall unit feels too kitcheny for a media wall in my opinion.

Whereabouts are you based?
