This can be achieved by creating norms that make everyone feel like they can take risks and be honest with one another, ensuring that each team member has spoken at least once, interruptions are rare, team members talk about their emotions, and everyone feels affirmed when they show vulnerability or bring their most authentic selves. I've found that setting SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, time-bound) goals for the team and ensuring each member understands their individual objectives is crucial. This clarity provides direction and motivation, reducing confusion and leading to a more focused, productive work environment.

Setting goals is best done when it is not a top down directive. Rather than the leaders coming in and telling everyone what the goals are, it should be a discussion. When team members have input on the goals or how they will achieved, they will have both a better understand of why the goals are important and more motivation to do their part to achieve them. No matter how clearly you deliver goals, if they are set in stone and team members have no input or buy in, they will never be as successful in achieving them as they will when they feel that they have input in the goals and the process.
