What do you do if you want to advance your career in renewable energy through self-evaluation?

In my experience as the workforce continues to grow exponentially the mix of skills is actually diluting from experienced workers as they are being promoted too fast or they are leaving because more weight is being placed on their shoulders without support. Training of new entrants to the industry is not long enough and not giving them enough skills. It’s fast and frustrating to see people being placed in roles without enough training and support

Shirley Malcom said once: "We must all move from valuing what we measure, to measuring what we value" -" When happened problem in house, my family asked me to fix it, especially if it has relationship with electrical system. I like to understand all sides of problem, so I know where to begin. When you you have a special gift that normal people saw it's unusual & strange behavior, but when you changed people who surround you, they will support & encourage to move on. You should always know your personal skills, so you can find your suitable job that can improve your self & the company in the same time

Assessing skills is paramount for upward mobility in the renewable energy profession as it ensures professionals remain competitive, adaptable to technological advancements, and compliant with industry standards. By continually evaluating and enhancing their skill set, individuals can increase efficiency, open up opportunities for career progression, and contribute to innovation within the industry. This proactive approach not only strengthens individual capabilities but also fosters growth and sustainability in the renewable energy sector as a whole.

Technical Knowledge: Evaluate your understanding of renewable energy technologies such as solar photovoltaics, wind turbines, energy storage systems, hydroelectric power, bioenergy, geothermal energy, and emerging technologies. Assess your knowledge of renewable energy systems design, installation, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, performance optimization, and integration with the grid or off-grid applications. Consider your familiarity with energy efficiency measures, energy audits, renewable energy assessments, feasibility studies, and techno-economic analysis for renewable energy projects. Project Management: Review your project management skills, including project planning, scheduling, budgeting, resource allocation, risk mgmt

Gaining knowledge of renewable energy technologies, such as geothermal, hydro, solar, and biomass. proficiency in data analysis, electrical engineering, renewable energy engineering, wind turbine technology, and project management. Capacity to evaluate environmental effects, carry out feasibility studies, and maximise energy performance and efficiency. Proficiency in project management competencies, including scheduling, budgeting, and risk assessment, is crucial in the renewable energy industry. To determine if renewable energy projects are economically viable, financial analysis and business expertise are necessary.

Set a goal to further your education in renewable energy, whether through formal education like a degree or certification programs, or self-study and online courses. Identify specific skills needed in the renewable energy sector (such as data analysis, project management, or specific technical skills) and set goals to develop or improve these skills.

SMART stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound, and it may be used to help you define goals for developing your career in renewable energy.Establish definite, well-defined goals for your career in renewable energy. One such goal could be to obtain certification in a particular renewable energy technology, such as wind or solar power. Make sure your objectives can be measured so you can monitor your development. As an example, you may decide to attend a certain number of industry events or finish a certain number of online courses in order to expand your understanding about renewable energy.

In my experience and knowing so many people who have asked for my advice I always say research the industry and its roles within. Get a good idea of what you would like to do and see what companies require you have to do that role. Set your goals according to your research

What do you want from career in renewable energy? 1) Making Money? Then get a Ph.D or MBA and sit in the chair for the rest of your life until the retirement day come. . Seriously, think about it twice !! You are working in dynamic & attractive industry in the world which every day new challenges that makes feeling you a live when you try to solve one of biggest issue which can effect the whole world by your decision either in research, engineering or administrative scope. Your supreme goal should be making our life more comfortable, greener & welfare. That's what motivate you every time you wake-up in the morning as you realize it's new day which equal to new challenge. That's make you happy when you return back home to re-energize again.

Setting goals is crucial for advancing in the renewable energy profession as it provides a clear direction and roadmap for career progression. By establishing achievable objectives, professionals can stay focused, motivated, and accountable for their growth and development. Goals help individuals identify areas for improvement, acquire necessary skills, and pursue opportunities that align with their aspirations. Whether aiming for leadership roles, specialized expertise, or broader impact in the industry, setting goals allows professionals to track their progress, overcome obstacles, and ultimately achieve success in the dynamic and rewarding field of renewable energy.

Along my journey of 14 years, I have made horrible mistakes, but every time I received advise from people that wish me to success & tell me what to do. We should always have mentor in our life so he/she can guide us to the right direction of ship towards the island of great accomplishments. In your way, you will meet negative people who envy your work, forget them & focus about what they said because some times they are true. It will help you grow with experience to be stronger when the storm come. You should prepare & you can not do that if we don't learn from our mistakes & learn from our mentors.

Everyday is a school day in renewable energy as the industry is growing so fast. I think I have the pleasure of reading something every day on LinkedIn where I have learned something new about renewable energy

My university professor told me once a time: "You should know everything about your specialty, and a little about everything of life" I understand he wants me to focus in One particular topic such as solar energy. But I asked myself one question, what if I don't find a job related to solar energy ? Do I should stuck of hope for this topic for entire life? Why I don't increase my chance for hiring in other topics? I could not resist my passion of science & technology, so I learned a lot not limited to other topics of renewable energy (i.e. wind, ocean & geothermal) but also other fields such as aerospace, aviation, fossil-power generation, climate change. No-doubt you have treasure but who will opened it with distraction of too many topics?!

The rate at which new technology is being infused into the Renewable Energy sector is frightening. This in turn affect policies and laws, leading to the collapse of old ones so the new ones can take centre stage. Continuous learning and application is vital for anyone who wants to stay relevant in this field.

It will really save you time. But take care of one thing. Don't ever leverage your relationship to gain your personal goals. Life is based on mutuality. Help you once, then try to pay that debt as soon as possible. And above that all, respect other regardless the differences either in age, sex, religion, ethnic or whatever. We are all human & we all wants to see success in our hand. So, learn how to balance it.

Effective networking is the gateway to success in this field. Finding a way to connect with industry leaders who have the latest news on the latest development is crucial. Also, most opportunities one gets nowadays depends firmly on the quality of one's network.
