What do you do if your boss is resistant to your ideas during challenging conversations?

When my boss is resistant to my ideas during a challenging conversation, I make sure to stay calm and composed. I try to understand their perspective and concerns, then respectfully address them. I present my ideas with confidence, providing evidence and examples to support my points. I remain open to feedback and willing to collaborate on finding a solution that works for both of us. If necessary, I consider scheduling a follow-up meeting to revisit the topic after giving them some time to reflect on my ideas.

Do not be resistant to your bosses views, rather attempt to not just substantiate your views with data and real time information, also gauge your bosses perspectives. They may have visibility to things you may not, so getting insights into those may change your views.

Before presenting your idea, make sure you’ve thoroughly researched its pros and cons and how it will benefit the company. Get support from colleagues or other department heads. Their input might improve your idea and demonstrate your preparedness. Have different options ready for discussion. Offering a choice can make others feel more confident about taking action.

When bringing forth a new idea to leaders, it is important to be prepared with facts. How will this new idea benefit the organization or it's employees? How would you address any shortcomings if they arise? If there is resistance, try suggesting a "trial" period - this way the pros and cons can be evaluated before fully integrating any new processes or procedures.
