Share these different goals with them and be intentional, it will provide an opportunity to grow together in their leadership, and also your leadership as well.

Authentic communication is not about saying what people want to hear but expressing what needs to be told sincerely and thoughtfully.

As an LGBT leader, I found that authenticity and vulnerability were key sources of connection and humanization. These qualities provided credibility to the ways in which my leadership manifested. My ability to be authentic and vulnerable also led to building a more transparent culture in the organization around decisions, decision-making, organizational priorities, and authority. Most people, i think, don't want to feel like you're performing the role of a "caring manager" based on a script you got off YouTube. Transparency is also perception. Authentic and vulnerability help bridge the gap between technical transparency and perceived transparency, making it easier for people to trust and engage with leadership genuinely.

The goal was transparent: to create a safe, supportive environment where every young individual could thrive, learn, and lead.
