Fusion splicing can be further split into 2 categories - single fiber and ribbon. Ribbon fiber is when 12 fibers are glued together to form what looks like a ribbon. All 12 fibers are fusion spliced at the same time which reduces time on large-count fibers significantly because you're essentially burning 12 at one time. One downside to ribbon splicing is that if you have a bad burn or break on 1 or 2 fibers, you have to reburn all 12 in order to fix it.

Have a recognised certification for fibre optic termination, such as City & Guilds. Prep the fibre, ensuring it's kept clean with IPA wipes, stripped using specific fibre strippers, and cleaved to ensure a flat end. Have the fusion splicer setup to operate in your working environment using the arc calibration diagnostic tool. Ensure your splice protector is on the cable before it's spliced, and the pig tail connector is clean and free of oils/dirt. Once spliced leave to cool before dressing into panel/enclosure.
