You can go in and download materials and practice if you don't have a physical tutor. If you love 3D animation, you can download Blender tutorials on YouTube and practice.

If practice does not make it easier, you should seek out a new set of instructions that will give you alternative practice opportunities.

Yes, you have to be vulnerable and put yourself out there, but better to allow yourself for fixes if necessary before the universe points them out.

Coursera.com, edex.com,futurelearn.com also provides paid and unpaid courses on Graphic designing. Interaction with instructors and you have access to the course content are also provided.

I didn't believe in the Q&A for courses particularly with the disclaimer that if not address live, they would be answered offline. I didn't bother asking, until one time I had a pressing question. To my amazement, I was contacted directly with several options. Many courses give you access to recordings. It's good to have that as a reference where you can skim through quickly to refresh a particular skill or topic. Take full advantage of what is out there.

It seems like trends are cyclical. To quote Tower of Power, "What's hip today, might become passé". So it will help to not only understand the new trends, but also take a look back at foundational styles.
