Building a network when you are new can be a bit intimidating. It is sometimes easier to coach others on how to do it then to do it yourself. I recommend using LinkedIn as a wonderful tool. Find HR leaders at all different levels that you would like to have in your network and send a LinkedIn request. An important tip is to include a personal note as to why you want to be a part of their network and maybe even ask if they would be open to a short chat. At worst they will let you know if they do not have time and at best they will agree to virtually meet. From personal experience I appreciate this practice and have had many calls with new HR leaders where I not only share information but learn as well!
