In my experience, there is much crossover in all of these career paths. That said, you should ask yourself: What aspect of design to you feel most drawn to? Do you want to design how a website looks, how it functions, how users interact with the elements on the page, or how users experience it as a whole, or are you more focused on self-contained fixed-graphics that might be housed within a site or application? The answer to that question will guide you toward one of these specialties.

If you love to play with 👨🏻💻 👩🏻💻 code, solving logical problems, have good debugging skills and you prefer to write code instead of using GUI interfaces then this role is for you.. No matter what CMS or framework you choose to be specialised in, your logics should be strong enough to make career as developer.

Although Web Developers are more focused on code and functionality than they are on graphic design, per se, a good developer must have a strong sense of design also, because their code often dynamically renders an infinite number of elements. They are typically developing rules, styles, and functions that have can a ripple effect across countless pages.

I believe the easiest way to come up with a great design is to think as if you are the end user, and the design has been made for you. This enables a designer to open up their mind, look for inspiration, and create something acceptable to them. Once a designer understands the behavior of that design to the audience, it becomes easy for them to draw accordingly.

One thing I've learned about being a graphic designer is that you always have a knack for challenging visual concepts to tell your story using compelling visuals. So, if you're a person who loves playing around shapes, colors and objects to bring your message and purpose across without the "boring" aspect of coding, then being a graphic designer is your career.

A graphic designer is also a visual storyteller. You have to know how to take a narrative and create the best visual representation of it and carry it through to an audience that will understand and relate to that narrative. It's more than just knowing apps and what to do with them.

Since I was little, I was tasked to create birthday cards with the print shop software that came with a computer, 20 years later, I’m still so to speak doing the same thing and I just absolutely love making things look pretty. They always say follow your passion and it’s so true!

For me personally, it comes down to one bottom line; love what you do. It will never feel like work. If you love what you do, if you have a knack for design and working on, art makes you happy. It is easy to transition into graphic design. When I work for a client, I push myself harder. I try more things to reach that level of a “click” inside of my brain that says “this is perfect.” That click will never come if I don’t feel the passion for that work

An interesting job! at least I enjoy making app mockups. While developing a wireframe, or mockup of an app, a UI designer must understand the requirements and demands of the users. So a UI designer must be user-centric while developing a UI, empathize with the audience, anticipate needs and behaviors to create interfaces that feel functional and tailored to the user's journey. It's not just about buttons and colors; it's about enhancing the overall user experience.

Always be user centered. Even when you are not working. You should always be analyzing every product you see and use; and think how it can be made more user friendly and easier to navigate. In my experience, one field of design often leads to another. There is so much overlap between disciplines that you should be able to find what works for you. My biggest piece of advice is to never stop learning or experimenting. If you are working on a project and you aren’t sure how to get to the next step, dive in and do the research on how to make it happen. There are so many free resources out there you should be able to find what you’re looking for. Ask questions and don’t settle for “good enough”.

Let me tell you about an example I've seen Someone wanted to be a web graphics guru but only knew how to draw stick figures. Embrace your limitations, folks, but maybe leave the stick figures in the sketchbook! In this graphics jungle, network like Tarzan swinging from vine to vine. Learn from others' vine swinging adventures, and who knows, you might discover a hidden graphic treasure! 🌿💻 So, navigate the web graphics wilderness, sample the buffet, follow your creative compass, and remember the only wrong path is not having fun on the journey! 🗺️🚀

IMO you should make choice according to your interests, experiences and desires. Role that checks all those will most likely be the one for you. But in order to know what are you good at and what you like, you need to test yourself in that area (get some freelance of pro bono project or internship). Interaction on real projects, situations and with real people will give you much better understanding than any course itself. Theory and education should be preconditions and informational steps done ahead of actual engaging in any direction. Otherwise you will be wasting your time and energy.

I've recently decided to gauge my career path less on a skills-based factor and more of a task-based one. What tasks related to websites do you enjoy most? Sketching out wireframes in Figma or managing content from a CMS? Your daily tasks will ultimately make up your day-to-day work life and determine your overall satisfaction with your career. Find what you enjoy and what interests you and what you want to learn more about. Start from anywhere. Even creating or updating a website for a friend. You'll see what parts /tasks speak most to you.

One of the best things about being a “graphic designer” is the variety and crossover of skills that fall within. If you bore easily, it is easier than other careers to shift focus. Typically, you need knowledge and experience of several aspects of design, which are forever changing, to be successful in one. I think the most important thing to consider when deciding on a path, is to know that no matter the path, it will be winding and have forks due to the ever-evolving world of marketing and you may unintentionally end up on a different path and that’s okay!

Get the fundamentals of design as the foundation. Your passion or curiosity can drive you to a different destination as a career path. If you're inclined towards digital designs, you will end up in careers such as web designer, ui and ux If you're inclined towards physical designs, you can become print designs/ graphic designer and with a deep dive you can become an art director / product designer etc.

Having a graphic design degree, you sometimes think you need to be proficient in all these options. Although it is advantageous to be familiar with some, you don't have to be an expert in all of them. I suggest learning however you can, experimenting with software, read up on each category's job descriptions and maybe become an intern somewhere that might offer several of these positions. It goes from technical to creative, you just really need to test them out in order to find the right one. Find your happy place in this awesome world of design!

Trying to be a jack/jill of all trades can be a benefit for start-ups but hold one back from getting hired. For better or for worse, larger organizations depend on highly specialized job roles. I have gotten lots of fun gigs as a generalist but better contracts by honing my skills for a specific industry.
