Each company discloses information based on different standards, frameworks, or guidelines, depending on the target audience. Single or double materiality is only one of the aspects that sets those apart. The metrics that are chosen to report, are what differentiates companies regarding their performance. Depending on whether one is into ESG or impact investing, or by deciding if an investment should contribute to a certain SDG, the environmental and social criteria and metrics to follow, and monitor are selected. Those metrics are compared to assess the impact of different investments.

There is still no framework that is obligatory for all companies around the globe, which can make it challenging to compare company A with company B. And there are differences between international markets. The EU is rolling out an ESG framework strongly related to the SDGs that is obligatory for all EU countries, starting with large companies and, over the coming years, also counts for small ones. That will create some transparency. However, in the US and other regions, there might be different frameworks that would make it difficult to compare. And there is always the question if a company could do more. Ultimately, an investor has to make an individual decision that also meets their own profit expectation.

Although the ratings on ESG issues can give us an idea of where the organization is stronger or weaker, it is important to focus on working hard on the organization's internal actions to be able to raise these ratings annually, although a rating standard . may differ since each one uses different metrics, my main recommendation is to always choose the standard with the lowest score and work on all the gaps that this standard has identified, in order to correct the different ESG risks that are identified and improve the qualifying
