How can you share your experience with student engagement in a compelling way?

The most important thing we have to do with our students is make sure they trust us. When a student comes into my office , I welcome them , by saying Welcome to The StarCenter. Engaging them 1st will let them know you see them and are there for them.

Always notice, name, and nurture students. Look for their gifts. See them in class, provide opportunities for students to name their talents, skills, and strengths. Name their gifts out loud and in context. Look for the something or someone on campus or in the community who can help them further develop their gifts. E-introduce them to opportunities to build a network around their gifts. Nurture students by validating who they are and what they bring. Hold them accountable to their dreams for excellence. Always show respect for their potential.

Artifacts that show growth and track engagement outcomes over a period of time may help to elevate your portfolio as well! Consider including student samples of portfolios that demonstrate their engagement throughout a unit, semester, or year. Sidenote- Always be sure you have permission to include student samples.

It’s so important to keep your “audience” entertained, engaged, and intrigued. Get out from behind the desk, podium, or any other physical barriers and connect with the learner. Sell your excitement for the message being delivered in a way that creates excitement for your participants. Allow space for them to connect with one another, as well.
