What do you do if your boss is unaware of your progress and achievements?

Determine if your are the only person that is not being recognized by your boss. Is the miss attributed to your skill set or your bosses? Does the company promote recognition or does it manage purely by expectation and management pressure? Lead by example - approach your manager or the responsible Human Resources person. Recognize what you contribute and keep a clear and concise record. What do you clients say about you and don't be afraid to ask for a reference from you clients if it is appropriate. Ensure that you understand that you are meeting the bar that you are measured by, and don't assume your manager understands the value of this performance feedback.

You always need to gauge what kind of boss you have. Some bosses need it spelled out for them with proof while other bosses love brevity and just the fact you were able to handle the task with minimal guidance. This could help your boss trust you more and ultimately give you more responsibility.

Unfortunately there is a reason your asking this question. Management today as it was said in one of the comments management is either distracted or don't care until it benefits them. More and more companies are looking at people as expendable resources instead of assets. Don't look to management for your own success or affirmation.
