What do you do if you're struggling to handle airport emergencies during your internship?

Je ne suis d'accord pour l'approche même pour un stagiaire. En effet, tout stagiaire qui rejoint un organisme présent sur un aéroport en particulier les compagnies aériennes doit recevoir une formation et une sensibilisation concernant le plan d'urgence, car en cas d'urgence on a besoin de tout le monde pour prendre en charge les passagers, les familles, ...etc une seule structure ne peut faire cela seule. Sur les aéroports qui se respectent la création du CRIC (Centre de Renseignement et d'Information de Compagnies) organe composé de volontaires présents sur l'aéroport ils sont formés pour différents rôles car en cas d'urgence, une compagnie seule ou un aéroport seul ne peuvent faire face à une urgence.

Thereafter, it is broken down at the level of each entity responsible for handling each type of situation. By international regulation the handling of emergency situations is already set in the Emergency Plans, to be able to understand your role, and more importantly how your role contributes and aligns to the other actions of the plan is important to familiarize yourself with the plan. But also understand the context of your airport who handles what and why that will facilitate an effective response from you to the emergency situation. Always, considere that your contribution maybe just stand down and wait for instructions, following and respecting the management line is crucial in this cases.

In fact understanding roles & responsibility should come first. Nowadays every Airports has its defined emergency plan. Imparting regular training, orientation program are part of the system. Roles & responsibilities are clearly defined there. So for an intern, it is desired to know about his roles & responsibilities. This would help him to a greater extent to deal with emergency.

Staying informed about emergency and reporting emergency to authority or Airport operator should be part of protocol. A two way communication for reporting & disseminating information on emergency is much appreciated. Relaying information to passengers & visitors should be very meticulous & professional so as to avoid any panic situation.

Airport emergency plan should be written according to the ICAO Document 9137 Part 7 and be accepted by the state Civil Aviation Authority. Thus every participating agency and key personnel know his role, they should practice lots of training according to the plan including full, partial or table top drills. There should be some review after each drill or real emergency situation. If is doing correctly, there should not be any struggling during real emergency. However if struggling realized, he should go back to the scene commander or the airport emergency committee head for new orders.

Follow your checklist and role assigned as per Emergency Response Plan (ERP). It is always desirable to go through ERP, your checklist / role, your resources, getting the training and taking part in practice drills. This all helps you in a concerted manner like a machine on the D-Day
