Finding gaps in our knowledge can be tricky because we don't know what we don't know! The time and effort spent identifying these gaps should match the effort put into learning them. To do this, spend 1-2 weeks (I feel) reading and watching content about design, great designers, and related fields like marketing, user experience, communication, and business. As you go, write down all the topics you feel you should know. Then, organize this list from top to bottom based on priority.

When looking for resources to learn from start with your public library. In addition to books, many libraries offer access to courses covering a wide range of topics. Also many universities now offer free courses. You don’t have to spend a lot of money to further your education and learn something new.

When working on acquiring a new skill as a personal goal, setting milestones can be highly effective. Establishing both short-term and long-term milestones helps in measuring progress and maintaining consistent motivation. As humans, we often expect perfection in new skills, but it's essential to remember that progress is more important than perfection. Consistent small efforts yield greater results over time compared to sporadic, intense efforts. By setting daily goals, you can see significant achievements over the course of a month. My approach is to break down a larger goal into smaller, manageable tasks and incorporate habits related to that goal into my daily routine.

When developing your plan you need to set realistic goals. How much can you really achieve in a given time frame? Consider how much time you can commit to reaching your goals and how that fits in with your commitments and responsibilities to others. Slow progress may not be your preferred way but any progress is better than none.
