Work backwards by understanding community members needs by listening to uncover the root cause. Use storytelling to connect to an emotion such as anger or sadness. Do not use words such as "I know how you feel or what you are experiencing" as you are not in their shoes. Do not use acronyms or technical language. This is sales 101. In such a "distracting" world, reaching your audience through 1 channel is not enough. If all you do is speak at an event one time, people will forget you. But if you add all the attendees on LinkedIn after the event and actively schedule 30 minutes a day to then engage with your LinkedIn connections/post content, the attendees will be much less likely to forget you. "Out of sight, out of mind" is such a true concept. I also strongly believe in the power of mail - follow up the above touches with handwritten thank you cards to attendees and you're sure to leave a lasting impression!
