It's probably important to appreciate the triggers of imposter syndrome. First, As much as we might consider it innate, it's also helpful to ask whether some peers and seniors in material science intimidate young scholars into a feeling of inferiority. Therefore, having a supportive, undismissive (sic) mentor who's able to help one through a Stress-Test of ideas may go a long way to boost self-confidence. Secondly, I agree on the asking questions part. I always told my students and colleagues that there was never a stupid question. Perhaps there's a stupid act because one decided not to ask. Ask to confirm. Ask to know. Whatever the motive: ASK (Am Seeking Knowledge). That's how I use it! You'll soon realise that you're not as stupid!
