Please... never justify your salary. So many candidates start to fumble when we talk about salary expectations. As a Recruiter (and I just speak for myself) I am not interested in how you came to the conclusion of your salary expectation. It doesn't come across as confident if you start to justify. "I did my research and found out xyz…" "In my last job I earned xyz..." "...because of this qualification or this position I should earn xyz" "...based on my expenses..." I would always use this sentence: Based on the responsibilities this role has, my range is between x and z. PERIOD. No further explanation. Be confident and endure the awkward silence. :-)
