In a properly human workplace - there's only personal improvement in a passion. We become better through working. That's promotion (in personal quality) and it occurs without having to beg a demented 'boss' for an inflation-busting pay rise. By definition - the 'boss' is not able to do anything - if a worker fails to get a promotion it's not for any reason relating to a worker's quality since the 'boss' through having ZERO quality has no power to assess the single only character that need be taken into account when making this decision.
