Apps like duolingo often try and use funny examples to help you learn nuances of the morphology in a language. Great teachers in my experience help students learn through creating silly stories (that are untrue) but help you memorize the morphology. When you create your own story Vs read one already written, it can have a longer lasting effect in my opinion.

Some of the better decks on anki that are free to use rank the words in order of how frequently they are used in a language (how common they are) and also how difficult the word is. When these words are distributed in flash cards in sentence form (with native audio), they can cover the different varieties of verbs and help the learner understand exceptions. Spaced repetition learning of sentence decks is ideal for learning irregularities in the language and also starting to understand context.

The best feedback loop I have experienced has come from positive reinforcement. Gentle correction of only 1 or 2 points (consistently) has helped me build more confidence in experimenting. In the past, working with teachers who aimed for 100% correct answers all the time was discouraging and made me anxious about making mistakes. As understanding the mistakes is needed to get better I think infrequent testing is better. Flash card tests and and quizzes work well as you can measure progress and the setting is more relaxed.
