How do you continuously improve your planning culture?

1. To foster a culture of continuous improvement in planning, it's essential to establish clear accountability metrics throughout your organization. 2. This involves defining key performance indicators (KPIs) that align with your planning objectives and regularly tracking and reporting on these metrics. 3. Furthermore, by regularly reviewing and discussing these metrics, you can identify areas for improvement and address them proactively. 4. Incorporating accountability metrics into your planning culture not only enhances transparency but also reinforces the importance of planning as a continuous, dynamic process that adapts and evolves with the organization's changing needs and goals.

Understand, design, plan, execute and assess. These are key tasks in order to have success in any business. The irruption of the IA in the business environment and to lead any type of organizations in the physical, ciberspace and other domains requires a full learning and adaptive mindset. For example, the covid-19 pandemia left the seed of the importance in flexible thinking in order to plan correctly. Eisenhower´s quote: "in preparing for battle I have always found that plans are useless, but plans are indispensable", is more current than ever...These events catalyzed flexibility in planning culture around the world

Look firstly at the outcomes of the planning process. I ask myself the following questions: 1. Did I have to do a lot of workarounds to accomplish this? 2. Are my people buying in to contributing to planning.

In my opinion, it's crucial for the project management team to be fully aware of the exact role of the planning team, and how to make the best use of them. This requires more training for all the staff on the planning and control tools. This may enable to unify the language between the team members. In addition, the whole team shall be involved in the process of preparing the project program, including giving their feedback about the estimated durations, sequence and work priorities.

I've often emphasized the necessity of introspection. Before introducing change, understanding the existing framework is paramount. To gauge the prevailing planning culture, I've employed diverse approaches like surveys and SWOT analyses. For me I want three types of planning approaches 1. Short Term 2. Medium Term 3. Long Term The planning culture must not be rigid but also change to occur.

I find that working 3 months ahead and planning on a daliy basis helps to manage day to day business. The hardest part of planning is actually getting things done in a good timeframe, so do not set hard to reach targets, give yourself more time than you need!

While this is natural and usually fades once people see benefits and progress, there's a caveat that can take your organization not quite where you want to go. In the refining stage I find very helpful to ask these few questions: - What worked and why? - What hasn't worked and why? - what can we improve as a team? - Did we detect any silos in the value system of the organization? - What skills has the team learned in the process?

Schools are excellent environments for learning how to plan effectively. Teachers plan every year, term, month, week and day. Based on student needs and curriculum goals, we plan accordingly in age groups. We assess the previous plans and determine what we should keep doing and what needs to change. We meet on a regular basis because plans and environments change unexpectedly, but students' needs and educators' goals still have to be met. Schools cannot run properly with hundreds or thousands of students without consistent, effective planning.

When you sit with other teams and know what they understand about planning and allow them to put their finger prints in the plans that will be implementing with them not only you increase the spirit of loyalty and responsibility towards the plans but also you widen and improve planning culture Finally sharing with other teams make them understand the plan well and become easier for planning departments to allocate tasks and activities.
