How do you evaluate the effectiveness of your knowledge management training and education programs?

Knowledge management education and training programs must be evaluated using a multidimensional methodology that makes use of particular criteria and indicators. Training evaluations often align with four levels of analysis. 1️⃣ Attitudes: Do people feel positively? 2️⃣ Knowledge: Do people know what they're supposed to do? 3️⃣ Behavior: Do people act how they're supposed to act? 4️⃣ Results: Is the program achieving what it's supposed to achieve?

To measure effectiveness, there must be key indicators that gauges the excellent performance and poor performance in that thing. - The change in behavior and attitude of learners from the training. - Growth at a dimension you had shared would be evident. - Increase in capacity and knowledge can not be hidden when learners possesses them. - Performance becomes better when they have been build and loaded with capacity in knowledge. - Outcomes of their behavior and self-reflection becomes better and the outcome of a training determines how well the training has impacted the learners.

First define what does knowledge mean and how a person in an organization would use it for doing their work e.g. need of call center agents is different from a person working in a L&D organization

I would ensure there is a purpose defined for the data analysis and an extensive criteria to apply this intelligence. The examples give a great start.

I would recommend a mixed study, one that uses numbers as well as qualitative data gathered through interviews and group discussions. A survey may give direction to data collection but an interview can help shed light on the dark, give an opportunity to explore underlying trends, and understand the why behind the what.

Connecting with similar sized organizations is helpful to build the benchmark but also to learn how to improve. For larger companies using BPOs, this can be a great way of capturing benchmarking data from a larger range of comapnies. Engaging with communities to share experiences and best practices helps drive change. Speaking with your KM vendor to learn their recommendations and experiences from other deployments is also powerful.

In my experience, we can evaluate the training and educational programme on the knowledge management via making people aware about the best practices, creating goals and objective based learning modules along with their learning outcomes, and performance matrix. At the same time, we should look for attitudes, behavior and knowledge of the people participating in the training. Training programmes and curriculum should be revised regularly and easily accessible.

Initiate targeted actions based on feedback for continual training improvements: - Regularly gather feedback through surveys and focus groups. - Utilize data analytics to track knowledge application and engagement metrics. - Collaborate with trainers and subject matter experts for content refinement. - Monitor impact on knowledge retention, employee performance, and organizational outcomes. - Adjust strategies as needed for ongoing training relevance and effectiveness.

If what you are looking for with training is experience, practices, application or executions, you have to ask the person who will be in front of you these 3 questions: 1) How many #knowledgemanagement projects did you lead or execute? 2) what types of industries and organizations in? 3) what budget with? If there is no answer to these questions, know that the training is going to be conceptual/theoretical or in the best of cases they are going to outsource your KM experience (because you cannot talk in the first person about something you don't have). Updating the training programs on a regular basis is critical. We may need to change it because we've learned some best practices based on the runtime of the platform in our specific business, or the platform itself has been updated with more capabilities and features, and changes to some actions we perform. It is important that the users will utilize the platform with most efficiency.

Watch how employees embrace or reject the KM program. Give everyone a part of the KM program and give examples of how they are already practicing KM. Using simple language. Don't make the program so complicated that it's forgotten. Make it part of the organizational strategy and include funding for it to include conference attendance. Encourage conference speaking. Ensure it's mentioned in business proposals and how you will use it to support the prospective customers. Make it part of the organization communication plan. Have a KM CoP. There's so much an organization can do with a KM program so that it's not perceived as a trend or fad. Finally, show the what's in it for me (WIIFM) and the organization to embrace the KM program.

I would say, try to combine on site visits, to see the experience of the platform by its users. This would be different from the collection of data, while sometimes it isn't easy to gather all thoughts and feedback through a simple survey
