Before you define your metrics, you want to define what good performance looks like to you. Some might be fixated on keeping the cost per hire as low as possible, whereas others value their time as money and don't mind a higher cost per hire for a faster time to hire. Reflect on where your priorities lie to help you measure what performance looks like.

The one thing that I have come to respect about my company is that they’re not simply continuously l checking KPI‘s and metrics so as to assess you on a day by day basis, however, if after several weeks and even months of not producing interviews, or making new connections or leads— where the data and metrics can be of use is that it gives us the ability to reverse diagnose the issue(s) and enables us to get a large scheme of where and what can be improved. Perhaps a new and may be more efficient way based on proven track record of success as there is no one size fits all approach

I agree that to start you should focus on just a few metrics. Define 2-3 key focus areas and measure your metrics daily and weekly. Just like anything else, recruiting is a hiring/talent acquisition funnel. If you are working with a recruitment agency or an ATS be certain to know what metrics they provide. You may not need to perform additional work to gather the metrics. It could just be obtaining the reports. Confirming your data is accurate and consistent will allow you to make informed decisions on your recruitment efforts.

Dashboards are what I have seen the most success in as a recruitment consultant. Visualizing the data takes on a whole new meaning and I agree with separating it by role and department. This will allow you to see who or which departments might be holding up the hiring timelines and effecting the budgets. If hiring manager A has higher retention and the time to hire is significantly less than manager A who has a longer time to hire and lower retention then these may correlate. You could determine that you have a leadership problem and not a recruitment or hiring problem.
