It’s not a sign that I’m unqualified — it just means I care about what I’m about to present. Before the meeting, I’d take a moment to breathe and reflect on the journey that brought me there. I’d think about all the hard work, late nights, and revisions I’ve poured into my solution. No one knows my idea better than I do. I'd also remind myself that I was invited into that room for a reason — because they believe I can solve a problem.

To overcome this, I ensure three things: Before the Pitch: Dive deep into researching every angle of the solution. The more you know, the less room there is for doubt (Dunning-Kruger effect highlights how preparation builds confidence) During the Pitch: Remain firm and confident. Studies show that confident body language alone can influence perception positively (Carney et al., 2010). After the Pitch: Stay open to feedback. If the criticism is valid, accept it with a smile, as a chance for growth. If it lacks backing, engage in a healthy debate, armed with facts and sources.

To overcome self-doubt when you are pitching an idea / presenting something in front of key people in the organization, one can do the following: - Ensure you have gone in-depth of the matter that is being discussed and presented. - Prepare yourself based on the people in the meeting, try to take help from colleagues - Don't fear about the gaps, if you don't know something, let the person know that you will check and get back to them. Ensure you get back later with the needed info. - Keep the data and the necessary information ready with you to be shared.

Confidence comes from knowing your material inside out. Anticipate potential questions or challenges and have well-reasoned responses ready. When you’re sure about your data, research and the problem your solution solves, you’ll naturally feel more confident.

One thing always proved to be useful for me in such a situation is to be confident in what I am going to present. Before that you must be sure that whatever you are going to present does hold value. One should really be confident about it and not shy away speculating other's reactions.

I use enthusiasm and positivity presenting a solution that might seem a bit too bold for some. I also like to take my audience into the explanatory path of what conservative other options already exist to demonstrated how well founded my new solution is. Usually I studied in detail beforehand which preferences the main stakeholders have and how they would normally solve the same issue, or where they see risk. I make sure to point out which minimal risk the new solution bares and what a huge gain it would bring for our reputation in being bold and innovative. :) Afterall, everyone likes to think of themselves as bold and creative....

I will use positive self-talk, mostly by replacing negative thoughts with affirmations about my capabilities and the value of the solution. Then I imagine myself delivering a compelling pitch and receiving positive feedback. This mental rehearsal helps me reduce anxiety.

I always start strong, that is to begin my pitch with a powerful opening statement or compelling statistic to capture attention and build momentum. Using evidence and data, I will then back up my claims with solid evidence to reinforce the validity of the solution. My attention is on anxieties to the needs and interests of my audience. This helps me feel more purposeful and less self-conscious. Then using breathing exercises or quick meditation techniques I climax my preparations before the meeting to calm my nerves.
