I agree with this. Keep it simple and to the point, sharing only the necessary information that will help find a solution. Sharing irrelevant information will not only deviate you from.your purpose but can hurt the process and possibly coworkers.

It’s important to talk through the ‘why’ and the ´when’. As mediators we will have thought through (hopefully) the reasons for confidentiality and the situations in which it might be broached. The others involved may not have had that opportunity. Even if they have, their understanding of the specifics might differ. Be clear. Listen carefully to what the other thinks confidentiality means.

Perfect, many attempt to communicate are nullified be saying too much. Also you should be mindful of the peer you share information with. Is She/He trustworthy? Will they be confidential with the information you provide them and will they contribute to the resolution of the conflict?

I agree with you on this. Only privileged individuals or persons are allowed to access confidential information at any given time. Therefore, sharing such information with a peer who is not within the privileged group is unacceptable. If it is so important that you need to share such information, ensure that you have clearance to do so.

Getting their consent is very important and also show that you are concerned about their privacy. If possible you may let them know who you intend to share their information with so they are aware.

while working as a PI with a security & investigations company, if I'm conducting a locate investigation where the subject is in the same region, I would speak with my supervisor (also the owner/operator of the company) to getv permission to speak with the guards working the same region. But the only info I would share regarding the file is the description of the subject. of course when I'm partnered up with another PI on the same file, then we can share our findings, compare notes and co-write the Investigation Report

Personally, discretion is very key, in my experience, there are instances where laid down policies permits sharing certain information with certain individuals, however policy may not be able to save in instances where permitted individuals use that information for contrary purposes.

From my years of experience, the strongest alibi when issues around confidentiality arise is your ability to be able to prove that you followed laid down policies. Riding on the back of this is the wisdom to also apply discretion when handling confidential information or data in the absence of written policies or regulations.

Also, being consistent just saves your mental energy. Having a reputation of someone people can always rely on is the best insurance policy there is.
