If the design solution is innovative or not it will depend on the goal. Normally the challenge is to connect user needs with the business perspective. If it doesn’t match this combination, than it may be an invention, but not an innovation. Innovation is about creating value - that did not exist in that form before. Therefore, a design innovation can only be called that if it delivers an adequate solution to the users. It requires sweat and understanding the different vectors that impact the design decision. Innovate for what, is the key question.
