What are the most effective leadership strategies for a sustainable future?

Denn alle drei Dimensionen des „Magischen Dreiecks“ beieinflussen sich gegenseitig und können damit folglich auch nicht losgelöst voneinander gesehen oder verändert werden. Zwischen ihnen muß vielmehr eine gute, ausgewogene Abstimmung hergestellt werden. Dies wäre bei einer Vision zu berücksichtigen.

Eine erfolgreiche Strategie muss realistisch und umsetzbar sein. Nicht zu viel vornehmen. Immer in kleinen Schritten in die richtige Richtung gehen.

In my experience, an essential element for sustainable leadership (and how it differs from the leadership of the past) is the ability to know and understand the "real" needs of your stakeholder : what is objectively "good" for them. For example, in the case of a food company, there's a difference between "easy needs" of stakeholders such as ease of use, attractive packaging or rapid delivery, and "real needs" such as contribute to a sustainable food transition, provide nutritional qualities, remunerate the players in the value chain fairly, and so on.

Leaders should articulate a compelling vision that integrates sustainability into the organization's core purpose and mission. Have a clear and compelling vision of the legacy you want to leave - not only the vision of the future, but the vision of the past you want to leave behind. This will speed up your sustainability efforts and will enable an even more ambitious future.

When I was the sole Sustainability SME at Customs and Border Protection, I joke that I was responsible for turning the "Titanic" but only given a spoon. We don't have all the cool toys other industries have to rely on which is why you must have grit. Next to grit you have be okay with large amounts of risk. You're setting a heading with limited data, tools, and resources. Be fearless and keep taking steps.

Education is lacking amongst designers. Access to knowledge is key to sustainable design. The bosses go to seminars and the designers stay at the office. Seminars cost an arm and a leg nowadays. ASHRAE greenbuild costs over $2000.0 plus airfare, hotel, transportation, etc. Any technical pamphlet cost $300 plus dollars, ASHRAE membership doubled to $500.00. Software costs are plain terrorism. How do we expect young engineers and designers or small firms to design sustainable facilities without the necessary resources and know-how?
