What are the most effective ways to get noticed by event organizers?

In my experience, the title you give to your talk is key. Use the audience's language; how would one participant describe their situation to a best friend? For example: I gave a talk to teachers called "Totally Swamped & Utterly Overwhelmed? Discover the most powerful ways to get on top of things and feel more in control" – because these are the phrases a teacher would use in conversation. I also named the pain (feeling overwhelmed) as well as the desired feeling (getting on top of things). This made it clear the talk would offer a journey from problem to solution.

I love to underpromise and overdeliver. If I think I can get a first draft of the talk sales copy sent over by Wednesday, I'll let the organiser know to expect it by Friday – and they then get a pleasant surprise when it arrives two days early. This also builds in a buffer for me in case unforeseen circumstances delay me being able to submit the copy to them. I also respect how busy the organiser is and reply as promptly as possible to any request they make for information e.g. headshot photo, sales copy, technical requirements.

Follow-up and follow-through are about showing your commitment. I like to think of it as being present to help organizers deliver on their commitments and promises to the audience, not just because it was about being paid to do it. When you show up, there is always an opportunity to use the experience to help someone else and pay it forward to the next group or event.

I have learned that you have to measure what matters when it comes to tracking how you are doing. Getting feedback generally is great, but what you do with it is what matters, and sometime you may need to ask for more specific feedback from an audience. Working with the Event organizer to build in questions that will give you what you need is extremely helpful. Secondly, I like to take the feedback I get, dig into it to understand it, and evaluate it. I start by asking myself, "Is this something I should start doing or saying?" or "Is this something I should stop doing or saying?" Either way it allows me to look at what I learned and how to apply it or not.
