Encourage each team member to serve in a leadership role in an industry-related/trade association that is specific to the organization's market. Excellent method to hone personal & professional skills such as strategic planning, problem-solving, market analysis, team work. Also, they will gain market recon way upstream they can bring right back to their organization, all while building relationships, earning trust and developing confidence. Get on the association's committees and get on a first-name basis with colleagues and industry leaders.

To ensure the equitable development of all members of a diverse team, I try to make daily communication open and frequent, with spaces for collective and individual exchange with each one. I also consider it essential that the conditions for internal promotion are clear to everyone and that a culture of transparency about these opportunities is generated. Lastly, it has worked very well for me to support the teams by agreeing on flexible schedules and ways of working that allow for a balance between personal life and work and respect diversity.

In my experience, foster customized learning opportunities that will enable growth. Meet with the personnel and outline their suggested action plan with built-in corrective components that can be taken to accelerate and/or modify the action plan if warranted. The preceding steps will build team confidence and enable constructive dialogues leading to trust and more receptive to constructive criticism (where appropriate) for growth.

To promote equal opportunities, I’ve found these strategies effective: Mentorship Programs: Pairing team members with mentors from diverse backgrounds helps guide their career development and ensures everyone has access to valuable insights. Diverse Training Opportunities: Offering a range of learning resources catering to different skill levels and learning styles ensures all team members can grow at their own pace. Open Dialogue: Creating a space for employees to discuss their career goals and challenges encourages transparency and helps address any barriers to growth.

Allow everyone to lead. When everyone leads, everyone communicates. When everyone communicates, expectations are clear. When expectations are clear, everyone holds each other accountable. More importantly, everyone works together to ensure the team succeeds as a whole. When everyone leads, everyone contributes. But it always starts with one, someone has to stand up and initiate championing the cause.
