I think, customizing your result according to the job, could add points to your side as it shows, that you are serious with the work and give importance to how you present yourself. Customizing might help the employee to get the job but it also eases the work of the employer to segregate the resumé which may fit into the category.

The best way to expand the network is to come out from your comfort zone and approach others, be friends with them, talk, show interest, be polite. I have found LinkedIn Premium to be really useful when looking for a new job. It helps me find jobs that I am ranked highly for as well as shows me who else has applied and where I rank in comparison to them. I also like using premium to be able to message a recruiter to follow up on my application or to find out extra information about a job posting. Typically my unemployment period between jobs is 6-8 weeks maximum. Finally, treat job hunting like a job. I apply for jobs from Sunday through to Thursday. I seldom apply on a Friday as I have found my applications go nowhere because rarely will a recruiter look at new resumes on a Friday.
