You're preparing to address a diverse audience. How can you ensure your message resonates with everyone?

Firstly, you need a deep fund of knowledge. Secondly, you need to be able to communicate this knowledge in a manner that even a 5-year-old can understand. Thirdly, I try to meet some of the audience before my presentation to see if we share anything in common- a language, a skill, a hobby- whatever. This makes the presentation way more personal. And lastly, humility. I answer all questions to the best of my ability and say "I don't know, but will find out for you" when I do not know the answer.

It is very important to have some knowledge of the differences within the audience. You might use a saying that is pertinent to a particular culture if it is applicable to your presentation. For example to use the expression UBUNTU and explain what it means in a South African context so that people can relate to this. While this might resonate with those from South Africa by explaining what is represents does not alienate others, but shows that you have an understanding of it as it is not part of your own culture. People need to feel unthreatened and comfortable with you and thus your presentation should show your respect for people by how you engage with everyone

Practise and preparation are foundational to expertise at anything and speaking is no different. The Euro soccer tournament reaches a finale this weekend. The players spend 99% of their time in prep and practise for 1% delivery. Penalties anyone? Think about that next time you have a big speaking gig. Preparation is what you do for every gig. You must know everything about the audience, the conference, the venue and what your client wants. Then you walk to the lectern with confidence, since it will be exactly as you envisaged. Tip: get out from behind the lectern. And practise? Well, that Gladwell’s 10,000 hours. And if we are talking speaking in public, expect public failure*. *always a leaning moment.

Life is about people. Communication is an amazing skill to master because it allows others, despite language barriers, cultural barriers, even non-verbal barriers; being able to use your intuition to read others is extremely important. Being relatable is key. Being vulnerable, genuine and honest is key. Having ownership and accountability over your words and actions is key. People know when someone isn't genuine. If we can't find a way to connect to those around us, despite all the diversity, you ate essentially speaking to empty rooms.

I firmly believe that to address diverce audience one has to consider the universal them that touch all humans irrespective of caste ,colour and geographical boundaries, it can attract billions of views through one platform and related with human life, human existence, their deeds, result,success, failure, tiwst and turn in one's life and moreover universal problem like environmental degradation, the conflict of power between two or more countries, global warming, terrorism etc to save human live and for the betterment of all human and for the betterment of whole world.

Nem todas as pessoas vão entender sua palestra da mesma forma, e isso faz parte de se apresentar para um público plural. Não importa. Se você trabalhar bem o seu tema, vai garantir que todos tenham olhado pela mesma janela, ainda que tenham visto diferentes paisagens. O resto, você aprimora com o tempo.

When preparing to address a diverse audience, I ensure my message resonates by drawing from my past experience at a global seminar oversees. There, I engaged audiences from various countries by embracing cultural diversity in my content and delivery. I used inclusive language, incorporated diverse perspectives into my examples. By balancing insightful content with a dynamic and engaging presentation style, I have tried and successfully kept everyone entertained and involved throughout, fostering a truly interactive and enriching experience for all attendees.

Making the emotional connection is foundational for every presentation, especially big audience speaking. As a Scot l need to be careful of both my accent and anecdotes, but l choose to speak in an identifiably Scottish accent- more Billy Connolly than Sean Connery- and use stories or words that need a bit of explanation. Why? Because displaying your personality, being a real human and engaging your audience with humour ensures you’re not a facsimile of yourself. That means taking a few risks. If you take advice from to many people and put your presentation through AI you’ll likely get fearful and it’ll surely be sterile. You can’t please all of the people all of the time, as someone once said.

PowerPoint is public speaking enemy number one; you have never been impressed by a PowerPoint presentation: if you have you need to get out more. Burn the deck… 🔥. Do I have your attention? So… Get your story sorted before you put a laptop on. Run a bath, pour a glass of wine, light a candle… and think! Grab a Sharpie and an A5 notebook and throw 17 ideas down… then another 17. Once you have a storyboard you’re ready to infect your themes by personalising, using metaphor and analogy, humour, quotes and references and case studies. And… Props, pictures and visual aides…😎. But… There are more options than a deck. If you are aiming for spontaneity, use a flip chart*. *If it’s a big room, get big pens.

Slides são assistentes, e não co-apresentadores. Só use slides se for absolutamente positivo complementar a sua fala com algum elemento visual -- gráficos, tabelas, imagens, vídeos... E reforço: "complementar". Se o seu público parou de prestar atenção em você para prestar atenção nos slides por mais de alguns poucos segundos, esse é um mau slide. Assistentes não roubam o foco. Eles amplificam o foco no apresentador principal. Imagens, vídeos e slides não são necessariamente ruins, mas é frequente que palestrantes -- tanto iniciantes, quanto experientes -- usem excessivamente esse tipo de material e se tornem secundários no palco.

É impossível ser um bom comunicador sem empatia. E eu não estou falando isso só porque empatia te ajuda a "conhecer o seu público" e direcionar melhor a sua mensagem. Empatia não é um valor instrumental: é um requisito básico para qualquer pessoa que queira se conectar de verdade com as outras. Enquanto comunicador, seu trabalho é criar vínculos, ainda que momentâneos, com o seu público, e a partir disso, promover impacto positivo real na vida das pessoas. Comunicação sem empatia é manipulação. Não é porque uma palestra, um discurso, um roteiro de stand-up ou outro material foi bem desenhado que ele merece o reconhecimento do seu público. O reconhecimento deve ser conquistado, e essa conquista só é genuína se passa pela empatia.

1. Grab their attention but don't talk down to them, as though you are the expert. You are not Joyce Brothers. 2. Appeal to multiple age groups, not just yours. You may be talking with a millennial who is a caregiver or a fresh kindergarten teacher. 3. Don't bluff, stick to what you know. 4. Be energized and half way through offer a statement or comment that will grab their attention + again. 5. Be yourself. Let your inspiring ways shine.

Be sure to share what you have in common, despite the fact that you come from different backgrounds. Shared experiences create a sense of connection. Honor the fact, in your words, that this may be a different way from how others may do it. Show them how you value what they do, and their contribution to this job/industry/community. Show them that you get their frustrations and how you have experienced something similar.
