About us
Founded in 1986, Abita was the first craft brewery to open in the Southeast. Today, we produce 160,000 barrels of beer annually in a range of great tasting, unpretentious styles including Abita Amber, Purple Haze, and Wrought Iron IPA. Located just north of New Orleans, we recently completed a three-year, $30 million state-of-the-art expansion of the brewery that will increase our capacity to 400,000 barrels while introducing groundbreaking environmental advancements to the brewing process. Abita uses only the finest ingredients – British and North American malted barley, German and American yeast strains, Pacific Northwest hops and the pure artesian water of Abita Springs.

Last week, Alvin Kamara shared some powerful words about his love for this city during a press conference about resigning his contract with the Saints: "This city has been loyal to me. This organization has been loyal to me. I don't feel like I would get this same feeling I get putting on the Fleur de Lis anywhere else." Inspired by his loyalty to New Orleans, we couldn’t resist responding with a post on X, saying we were ready to give him a lifetime supply of Abita. We never expected what happened next! Without even tagging him, Alvin saw our post and replied, “Do you need my address… how we do this?” From there, things took off. With over 3.7 million views, the post brought Abita some major buzz and had people talking, from big outlets to prominent voices: 1. ESPN: https://bit.ly/4f1vJeA 2. Yesterday, we delivered Alvin’s beer straight to his doorstep, creating a moment to celebrate the loyalty between Abita, Alvin, and our community. We’re thrilled by the incredible engagement, new connections, and the chance to celebrate alongside a loyal Saints fan favorite. Here’s to New Orleans, loyalty, and keeping Abita in the heart of it all!

Abita Beer Expands Operations with Second Brewery in New Orleans (NEW ORLEANS) Abita Brewing Company, the original and largest craft brewery in Louisiana, is excited to announce the opening of their second brewery location on Tchoupitoulas Street in New Orleans. Abita enthusiasts will soon have the opportunity to learn about the brewery’s history and brewing techniques while exploring signature brews at either the flagship brewery on the northshore or the new location on the southshore. “Adding a Brewery location in New Orleans just makes sense,” says Heidi Guerra, Vice President of Marketing at Abita. “We want people to have the opportunity to taste our beers where it’s most convenient for them and for a lot of Louisianians and visitors, that’s in the heart of New Orleans.” Opening in early 2025, Abita New Orleans will be a modern Brewery with true Louisiana vibes. “We will be doing something a little different at the New Orleans location,” says President Troy Ashley. “We’ll be brewing on a smaller scale, so we’ll have the freedom to experiment and develop innovative beers and offerings, which is really exciting.” One thing that won’t be different at the New Orleans location: the water, which is a key element in Abita’s brewing process. “Water is the foundation of all our brews, and we are committed to our craft brewing principles and staying true to who we are, which means all of the beverages crafted at our southshore location will be brewed with the same pure, artesian spring water as our northshore location,” says Guerra. The opening of Abita New Orleans reflects Abita’s continued investment in the New Orleans community. Abita has always been a proud supporter of New Orleans vibrant culture through food, music, festivals and community engagement. The southshore location will allow Abita to further enhance those collaborations with the local community from both sides of the lake. In addition to the brewhouse and tasting room, the facility will be able to host events and community gatherings to support local projects. This initiative, on the heels of the partnership with the New Orleans Saints as their Official Craft Beer, is another example of how Abita is staying Louisiana True.
