We partner with social service providers to build more equitable and effective behavioral health care in New York City.
About us
The Academy is dedicated to strengthening the role social service providers play in behavioral health. We invest in the knowledge, skills, and wellbeing of these providers so they can address related social, economic, and behavioral health inequalities with communities. Together, we aim to transform access to compassionate and culturally responsive care where it is needed most. The Academy for Community Behavioral Health is located in the office of Professional Education and Workplace Learning (PEWL) at the CUNY School of Professional Studies.

The Academy was happy to learn from more than 155 Peers and Community Health Workers convened by the NYC Mayor's Office of Community Mental Health and partners as part of OCMH's interagency working group to tackle mental health workforce challenges. We look forward to playing a small part in creating better conditions for Peers and CHWs to contribute their skills and expertise, while protecting their wellbeing. Thank you, OCMH, for sharing this full report report from the Peer Support Workers (PSWs) and Community Health Workers (CHWs) Listening and Feedback tour.
PSW and CHW are frontline professionals essential to community mental health, providing direct support to individuals every day. OCMH’s NEW Listening and Feedback Tour Report highlights their firsthand insights, challenges, and recommendations for improving mental health care across NYC. If we want to build stronger, more resilient communities, understanding and acting on these perspectives is crucial. Explore the report to learn how we can better support those who dedicate their lives to caring for others.
