Our Delridge Winter Farmers Market in West Seattle was a remarkable success with over 40 vendors and live music, making it our largest market yet. Held on Saturday, Dec. 14th, at the Youngstown Cultural Arts Center in Seattle’s Delridge neighborhood, attendees enjoyed fresh produce, hot food, baked goods, roasted coffee, and more, while supporting local small businesses. This event is a testament to the mission of ACHD--we are committed to empowering our community by supporting small businesses. It’s an honor to contribute to this important work. Thank you to everyone who participated! While this was the last market of the year, we’re looking forward to continuing our efforts in May 2025. Stay tuned for updates! #DelridgeWinterMarket #CommunityImpact #SmallBusinessSupport #NonProfitWork #LocalVendors #WestSeattle #AfricanCommunityHousing #FarmersMarket

On Wednesday, ACHD hosted the highly anticipated Generational Wealth Small Business Conference. This milestone event brought together over 60 small business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs, showcasing a pivotal moment for both Seattle’s business community and ACHD. Our goal was simple: to create a space in which a diverse group of small business owners could come together and collaborate. We aim to shine a light on the reality of our nation’s wealth gap that perpetuates racial and class stratification. We are committed to amplifying the strengths of these communities and their distinctive identities. We emphasize the natural abilities of business owners to network, maintain a strong work ethic, remain resilient and flexible, and ultimately build confidence in their role as cornerstones of the Seattle community. Additionally, we appreciate the ETHIOPIAN COMMUNITY IN SEATTLE for having us, and thank the Seattle Department of Neighborhoods for helping fund this event and supporting the small business owners and prospective entrepreneurs of the greater Seattle area. A special thank you to Davis Fisher, Marlon D., Nancy Phillips, and Maggie Hammond for speaking at our event.

This #GivingTuesday, ACHD is focusing on honoring the heart of our community—our elders. Their sacrifices, wisdom, and vision built the foundation of who we are today. This Giving Tuesday, we invite you to partner with us to ensure they remain connected, cared for, and celebrated. Together, we can fight isolation, support their health, and build intergenerational bridges that keep their legacy alive. Save the date: December 3. Let’s give back to the ones who gave us everything.

We were honored to share our journey at our first annual luncheon. Our story—marked by both challenges and triumphs—reflects the heart of who we are. Though ACHD is just six years old, we are deeply rooted in wisdom and community connections that guide every step we take in this new chapter. Take a moment to listen to our story, and we invite you to join us on the journey home.

✨ Thanks to you, Journey Home was a huge success! The warmth and heart present in that room was palpable. ACHD is proud of the work we've been able to accomplish thus far, and with support from incredible people like you, we stand even taller while we advocate for and amplify the voices of the African Diaspora. To echo Zzaj Collins' words today, the weight of social norms should never impact our audacity to belong. Each of us should stand firm. Our presence in the room has power, which should always compel us to action. It is this strength and wisdom that compels our team and our community to do the work each and every day, and today, we welcome you to take a seat at our proverbial table. 🌻 In Community, Hamdi, Bilan, and the ACHD Team 👋🏿 P.S. African Community Housing & Development (ACHD) reposted this
The City of Seattle recently released their updated Food Action Plan - a robust strategic roadmap with actionable steps towards a more equitable, sustainable, and resilient local food system for farmers, food service workers, consumers, our non-human relatives, and everyone across our community. So proud of our team at African Community Housing & Development (ACHD) - and a huge debt of gratitude to our farmers and vendors - for all our work over the past four years to establish and grow the Delridge Farmers Market into a thriving community hub. Our model is demonstrating a viable new way for farmers markets to serve as vital spaces of food justice and community health equity, along with no-barrier economic development prioritizing BIPOC-owned businesses offering culturally relevant ofod and goods. Check out this sweet video from the City of Seattle to learn more about the Food Action Plan updates, our work, and the work of other amazing organizations and businesses across town leading the charge and inspiring critical action across our local food systems. https://lnkd.in/gPxHedpa
