ADHD Alliance

Mental Health Care

The ADHD Alliance provide national support for ADHD within the emergency services and for the criminal justice system.

About us

Set up in February 2022, the ADHD Alliance was formed to support colleagues with ADHD and drive the criminal justice system to better understand neurodiversity. Since our launch, we have grown rapidly expanding our membership across the UK. We recognised there was a desperate need for the information and support we provide. We now train staff and host awareness events to help our colleagues across the emergency services and those that they manage. We also understand that if we can help our colleagues understand neurodiversity, we will reduce offending fuelled by untreated ADHD. The criminal justice system and the way we see neurodiversity have to change to allow us to change the lives of those we serve.

Festive greetings friends. I have been rather quiet on here the last week or so as I have been unwell. I think it may well have been good old covid, so I have laid low and rested. I really wanted to put together some sort of guide to making Xmas ND friendly for the membership of the ADHD Alliance. However time and said illness have stopped me making a bespoke guide. However, I have found an article from my local council that gives some great advice. Although it is aimed at children, the guidance and tips it give work just as well for adults, and I am endeavouring to act on a few of them for myself (For example my family know I may need a time out at some point!) I have put this into a document along with some links to other useful guides on the same topic. I cant take any credit for the work, but hope people may still find this useful, so thought I would share it here.

  • We have just sent this out to our police members. Check your work email, if you can't open it due to firewall restrictions within your force, please forward the email to your own device and open the survey link that way.

Thank you to everyone who shared our highlights video of the Disability in Policing Conference yesterday 🎞   We are excited to announce the launch of a national survey aimed at exploring the experiences of disabled and neurodivergent police officers and staff members 🗳   In collaboration with academic partners, this survey will provide valuable insights into the lived experiences of our colleagues, contributing to the development of the DPA’s 2025-2028 strategy and the first National Disability in Policing strategy, supported by the National Police Chiefs' Council and College of Policing.   The survey is open to all serving staff and officers, and the link has been disseminated to local staff support associations ✉️   If you work in policing and have not received a link but wish to participate in the survey, please email a.howard926@canterbury.ac.uk #disability #police Anjali Howard

Please help us by signing and then sharing this petition! 🚨 Review the Cross-Government Neurodiversity Action Plan On 15th September 2023, Ross Gribbin (Director General, Policy Group Ministry of Justice) wrote a letter titled '12-MONTH UPDATE TO THE CROSS-GOVERNMENT NEURODIVERSITY ACTION PLAN' At the conclusion of this letter, it stated: "The MoJ is set to release a final, comprehensive 18-month update in early 2024." This update has not yet been published as of November 2024. Whilst we have seen progress, we are calling on the government to do more and publish the promised 18-month update. As well as the update, we are calling on the government to: - Commission a thorough review of the current state of the understanding of neurodiversity in the criminal justice system - Introduce mandatory neurodiversity training throughout every part of the criminal justice system - Address the school-to-prison pipeline by ensuring early identification and support for neurodivergent children within the education system - We urge the government to implement tailored court disposals designed to support neurodivergent individuals beyond what is currently available By implementing these measures, we can not only improve the lives of neurodivergent individuals in the criminal justice system but also contribute to a safer and more inclusive society for everyone. The National Police Autism Association (NPAA) are back on LinkedIn! Give them a follow. They make up the triumvirate (love that work) of National Police neurodiverse support groups including Police National Dyslexia Association - PNDA and of course ADHD Alliance We are all chums who try to work together for the benefits of all neurodivergent people. #Autism #policing

  • Over the past few weeks and months, the ADHD Alliance volunteers have received a huge influx of enquiries, both personally and in our inboxes. This highlights not only the scale of what we face as a support organisation, but also the challenges the country faces as a whole in recognising the need for ADHD support. We want you to know that we try our utmost to respond to everyone and support as many people as we can. The demand has simply outstripped supply, so we have had to consider measures to remedy this. We acknowledge that the path we were on was not sustainable or healthy for those who run the ADHD Alliance. We are working on a membership site that will hold resources to enable a more widespread impact of our advice and content. Hopefully, we can build upon our already amazing community and connect them via the website so that they can support each other to. We’re also going to utilise our national support more and bring more national policing ambassadors on board to help with managing demand. As with all of our work, we do this in our own time and we're building it little by little. Thank you for your patience as we build the next chapter of the ADHD Alliance and continue our work. Thank you from: Daley Jones Carl Mumford Sveva Germani and the rest of the committee and ambassadors.

  • In less than two weeks, one of our founders Carl Mumford is climbing Mount Kilimanjaro to fundraise for the ADHD Foundation Neurodiversity Charity. We will using the money with the ADHD Foundation to raise awareness of ADHD and other neurodivergent conditions within the emergency services and wider criminal justice system. So far the Emergency Service Challenge team have raised a whopping £6042 for charities that benefit the emergency services. 💥 The Emergency Service Challenge was set up to fundraise and raise awareness of mental health in the emergency services. To date they have raised short of raising £20,000 for charity after climbing to Mount Everest Base Camp last year. 🏔 If you're able to spare some money to help Carl reach his target, we would be grateful for your support. We will keep you up to date with how the money is used with the ADHD Foundation. If you would like to donate, please use Carl's donation page; https://lnkd.in/eXaheBNw 🤗
