We love spending time with tomorrow’s innovators! Recently, we hosted the 8th graders from Withrow University High School for an Adopt A Class field trip. It was a super-fun and enlightening day as students explored how products come to life, rotating through hands-on stations in industrial design (ID), engineering, machining, and development. Today's Mentor Team Spotlight is Primerica Cincinnati! Primerica joined Adopt A Class this school year at Mt. Airy School, where they mentor a 3rd-grade classroom. Last month, mentors led a College and Career Readiness activity, continuing to highlight the importance of financial literacy. Utilizing the "student bank" activity from our educational resources page, Primerica mentors and the 3rd graders created their own banks to keep in the classroom. Throughout the remainder of the year, students will earn "money" in the form of tickets, which they can save or spend in the team's "store" during each visit. On Friday, we visited Linden Elementary in Hamilton to connect Adopt A Class with American Heart Association (AHA) for CPR training.   We taught students lifesaving CPR skills and reinforced the importance of quick action in emergencies. Their enthusiasm was incredible!   Shout out to Rachel McCarthy for assisting with the training and guiding us through the steps to saving lives. Excited for more opportunities to give back and strengthen partnerships in our community! Yesterday marked our third annual University of Cincinnati Experience Day! 🤩 260 eight grade students from Hughes STEM High School, Roberts Paideia Academy, Robert A. Taft IT High School, and Withrow University High School had the opportunity to immerse themselves in a day in the life of a Bearcat. The morning commenced with celebrations, including insights from University Of Cincinnati Undergraduate Admissions on College Credit Plus and what it looks like to attend a four-year university. After, students divided into two breakout sessions, one led by UC's Center for Youth Futures and the other led by a UC Academic College. Students in their breakout session explored majors, career paths, and academic enrichment programs at UC. While some students learned about the nursing program and practiced checking pulse and blood pressure, others stepped into the role of engineers through an interactive "build your own tower" activity, or learned about valuable careers in Environmental Science & Conservation, or gained firsthand insights from a current business student on what it takes to pursue a degree in business. The day concluded with a Q&A session featuring a panel of current UC students. Eighth graders had the chance to ask questions about different majors, fields of study, balancing sports and academics, and the personal journeys that led these students to UC. We are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to partner with UC in providing this enriching field trip experience for our eighth graders! Today’s spotlight is a mentor team made up of mentors from five different organizations: Abercrombie & Associates, Inc., Bayer Becker, Cardinal Engineering Corporation, Cincinnati State Technical and Community College, and Ryan Land Surveying! For their February visit, mentors visited their 8th grade class at Ludlow High School (LUDLOW INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT) for an engaging STEM lesson on surveying. Mentors began by setting up 5 different stations around the room that students rotated through every ten minutes. Each station had a different activity exploring different surveying concepts, including creating a topographical map, building a 3D model out of foam, and using a sandbox with a protector to create different "landscapes!" 🗺️ Thank you for introducing our students to the world of surveying!
