Climate change is increasingly posing significant risks to African insurers. Join the conversation in our next issue as we delve into the challenges and opportunities arising from climate-related risks. How can African insurers adapt and thrive in this new landscape? “What we have in common as Africans is that all of us are facing increased risks from climate change,” warned Ashok Shah MBS , CEO of Apollo Group. His words resonated as 11 Kenyan insurance leaders gathered last week to discuss the ripple effects of the California wildfires and why African insurers must take note. Led by Kevin Mworia at Continental Reinsurance, the discussion underscored three key points: ➡️ African insurers and reinsurers cannot tackle climate change alone. ➡️ Collaboration is essential for long-term sustainability. ➡️ The devastating East African floods of 2024 have forced the industry to rethink how to provide sustainable cover in the face of rising risks. The takeaway? African insurers must rethink risk, embrace collaboration, and innovate for resilience. The future depends on it. 📢 Look out for the next issue of AFAH Publishing for the full report. #ClimateRisk #Collaboration #Sustainability #Africa

Ever wondered what the insurance industry in Ivory Coast is like? The market is dominated by non-life insurance which, with 349 billion FCFA (US$587.2 million) in written premiums, will account for 58.3% of the total portfolio in 2023, for a penetration rate of around 2%. Despite its growth, the insurance penetration rate remains low in Côte d’Ivoire, compared with other African countries (South Africa, Morocco, Kenya). This represents a development potential for all players in the market.
