Happy Thanksgiving from the African American Diabetes Association As we gather with loved ones to give thanks, let's also remember to take care of ourselves. Diabetes may change our lives, but it doesn't have to change our traditions. This Thanksgiving, let's make healthy choices that support our well-being: Portion Control: Enjoy your favorite dishes in moderation. Smart Swaps: Opt for healthier alternatives, like roasted vegetables instead of mashed potatoes with gravy. Stay Active: Take a walk after dinner to aid digestion and boost your mood. Remember, you're not alone. The AADA is here to support you every step of the way. Wishing you a Happy and Healthy Thanksgiving!

Leon Rock, Co-Founder and CEO of the African American Diabetes Association attended the Howard University Center for Sickle Disease, annual sickle cell walk, in Washington , D.C on behalf of the African-American Diabetes Association. Leon had the the opportunity to meet and greet, Roger A. Mitchell, Jr., M.D., who now serves as the President of Howard University Hospital. Dr. Mitchell began his leadership of the hospital after Howard University Hospital President Anita Jenkins steps away from that position on Sept. 13th. This is Dr. Mitchell's 2nd day in his new position. It was a privilege to meet Stefanie Lomax, the founder of the Bryte Legacies Foundation, at Flavors Culinary Hub in Hyattsville, Maryland. The foundation is a heartfelt tribute to the memory of Ruta Alexis Doster-Walker and Stephen Brandon Walker, who were tragically lost to Lymphoma and diabetes complications, respectively. Stephanie shared the heartwarming news of creating a cookbook to honor the memory of her father, whose passion for cooking brought joy to their family. Stefanie and her family are deeply committed to raising awareness about diabetes. Inspired by the devastating loss of her father to diabetes complications, she has dedicated herself to organizing local events and an annual fundraiser to support vital research, educate the public, and improve the lives of those affected by this challenging disease. The African American Diabetes Association will be partnering with the Bryte Legacies Foundation and salutes the Lomax families work.
